Gore Mountain Conditions

I watched a YouTuber’s video about exploring upstate a couple months ago. The guy interviewed people down in Essex who said everyone here is on welfare cause there are no jobs. Then he drove up to Lake Placid and interviewed a 20 yr old from Europe who was working in a gift shop for the summer. The guy making the video didn’t comment on any connection between the two interviews. I’m sure it’s more complicated than my simple brain can comprehend

This is what I am getting from mgmt.
Any conditions news : )

Separately, I love Gore, state is what you get, but why not just pay people more? I hear you that they can't find people but supply and demand is not the hardest equation to solve. Especially when they make zip lines to nowhere. I can see Canada from my house : )

On the flip, I will say, knowing a somewhat senior NYS park manager, working for NYS seems to not be great. They have a different set of labor law where they seem to be able to fire people to avoid getting into the retirement system, and anything after Tier IV seems pretty bad - basically state pay with private sector security. Hmm . . . .

The Summit skied much better today. Loose granular but very little ice. Better grooming. Topridge was a bit worse for wear but enjoyable. Pine knot was in good condition.

The main mountain was in decent condition, but most trails were skied off once you hit the lower third.

The North Side is holding up pretty well.

In terms of the crowds, I left at midday and cars were parked halfway down between lot G & H. Despite that, there were minimal lines and the slopes didn’t seem that crowded. Surprising.

** Snowmaking update: I spoke to someone who was under the impression that Gore has a much lower total allowance for water use this year compared to prior years. Perhaps secondary to the very dry Fall season? If that’s true, I guess management is saving some of their allocated water given the upcoming rain. Who knows?

I wonder if there are blogs for other mountains where people just complain all day about things but then come back year after year?
Many of us “complaining” on this forum are probably Gore Mountain season pass-holders who love Gore and just wish that it would reach its potential. We keep coming back because it’s a great mountain. I’d much rather Ski Gore than any of the southern Vermont mountains… and generally Whiteface as well.

Not true, there is no limit on the draw from The Hudson.

Bottom line is this:
Management was well aware of the loss of help in the snowmaking/mountain ops department, as well as other areas of the mountain (food service, bar, etc) and they either chose to ignore it, or they just don't give a shit.:poop:
Kinda funny that the only thing that is not short staffed is the ridiculous waste of money going on down at Ski Bowl, and how can orda justify that when they can't even get snow made. Side note: they still refuse to even offer coffee, cocoa, water or even a vending machine at the Joe Minder Lodge at The Ski Bowl, (there was a high school XC race there last week with hundreds of teenagers and their parents; of course those people wouldn't be hungry or thirsty🫣🫢🤫)

As I have said before, the new lodge should have been a housing dormitory... 🤷‍♂️
