Gore Mountain Conditions

There are restrooms at the straight brook lodge on Gore’s tippytop.
But ya can’t get there from here now...
Restrooms and plumbing aren't the same thing.

I took the gondola for the first time this year. After reading some of the recent posts, I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to fit my 100 mm underfoot skis in the bin. Not to worry though, each back slot has a cutout made specifically for wider skis. So no big deal. And for those of you who scoff at the use of wider skis in the East, for some of us they’re the perfect compromise for a one Ski quiver. People like what they like.

The lower mountain skied great today, as did the North Side. Topridge was firm but had great coverage. The summit was… interesting. Neither Hawkeye nor Chati were quite ready for primetime. Unless you have a penchant for snow cookies. Hopefully the grooming team will chop them up overnight. If they do, both runs should ski great tomorrow.

My only concern with Gore’s opening so far is the apparent lack of snowmaking expansion. I don’t think they were making snow anywhere on the mountain today. On the contrary, I looked up the WF trail conditions page, and many of their trails had active snowmaking.

Does anyone know the actual reason that Gore isn’t blowing on Uncus, Cloud, the Dark Side and Burnt Ridge?

Won’t be long now.

I am a Gore homer for 20 years. Over my time as an ORDA passholder, I have occasionally been frustrated, disappointed, discouraged and often confused about how the mountain is run. But this year, I have reached a new low…I am disgusted. I do not care the order in which they open things…the fact that on December 27th they plan to open 30/108 trails when Whiteface has 69% of the mountain open, Stowe has 400 acres of top to bottom skiing and Killington has 122 of 155 trails open is entirely unacceptable. These mountains are in similar climates to ours and are delivering a vastly different product. Gore has no excuse. There needs to be some accountability: someone with the State of New York, or ORDA needs to step in and review where we are and what needs to happen.

At the summit ya poop into a holding tank. A septic service truck drives up there in the spring and empties it.
Hope that truck has good brakes.

The Bowl’s Zippy Lodge gonna need something similar cause Johnsburg's shiny new planned sewer system isn’t suppose to be online for the Zippy Lodge's opening. At least those trucks won’t have to be poo hauling mountain goats.
