Global Weirding

Years ago I had a discussion with a hydrologist and I mentioned golf courses and she told me that golf courses ain’t squat compared to each individuals consumption. Think daily showers, washing the dishes, washing the car etc.

I wasn’t thinking about the chemicals tho.

Using Phoenix as my example air conditioning and keeping a full pool is probably a big water issue but even if you use electric for anything, even mowing your grass that energy is likely generated by damn flow and water. I imagine that there will be a massive shift towards solar energy as the wells run dry and people will shit towards a more natural form of landscaping when their grass dies but even that will require x amount of energy.

Something has gotta give.

It’s a special place and the quality of life and weather is really hard to beat but we can’t live without water.
If ya want water put big pipes in.
There’s more than enough H2O to go around.
Earth is 3/4 water.
That’s why ya should go fishing 3 times as much as ya mow the lawn.

Around here if folks didn’t mow farm or bush hog the place would be a jungle.
Ever try walking thru the Dacks without a trail?

Shoot, man……I gotta give up skiing, golfing, mowing my lawn, taking showers….what did I miss? Oh, beef. Those f’ing farting cows!! Seriously, you want to talk massive, talk methane. The ski industry effect is prolly nuthin’ compared to the cows.

When they’re all done farting ya can go have a tasty burger after skiing. Saves on transportation.
Shit, just put a harness on one. Bessy’ll pull ya up. Think green.

I have an old school reel mower for my one acre or so of completely uneven and hilly yard. I love it. I can bird while mowing my lawn.

I went electric with my weed whacker and leaf blower. They were dirt cheap. I brought an extra 100 foot extension cord to go with them. They are so much lighter than the gas versions. I am a fan.

Mow high, mow less and switch to electric.

The biggest problem with golf courses is pesticides, herbicides and fertilizer leaching into surface and ground water. Not to mention massive amounts of water and mowing.
Unless you're charging the batteries with renewable electric you're just moving the exhaust pipe to the power plant.

Mowing high doesn't really allow you to mow less, it still needs to be cut one a week.

Water in the north east is plentiful, most golf courses irrigate with their own retention ponds or well water.

A golf course definitely has less environmental impact than retail, commercial office, housing development or virtually anything else beside forever wild.

Golf courses are thriving with wildlife and the ponds are stocked with fish.

Heavy chemical use is pretty much a thing of the past and what is used is heavily regulated.
