Earliest Big Event You Remember

Elvis's death - my mom was a mess - i was pretty young, but that's the first livid memory of something "big" happening news wise.

The introduction of MTV.

As already mentioned the blizzard of 78 although it’s not really as substantial as others for me personally.

The space shuttle explosion, 85? I think.

9/11.

Earliest was the lunar landing, bigger impact was POW return from Nam parade by our school holding our signs we made in class. personal event was 5-6 yo practicing and reciting the Pledge in court for citizenship (adopted from Canuckistan, no auto citizenship back then)

i can't remember if it was before or after elvis death but thurman munson death also scrolled along the bottom of the tv screen around the same time. loved him. he would spit into his helmet and then put it back on his head.

I remember Munson dying and being bummed out about it but I don’t have a clear memory of when I heard the news the same way I do other things like the 1980 hockey game or the Challenger disaster. I remember very clearly sitting in study hall and one of the other teachers came in and said the challenger blew up and everyone on board was dead. At first I honestly didn’t believe him. I can clearly remember thinking he was joking.
