Not much. That's why Vermont days exist. If a lot of Vermonters skied, there would be no incentives for them to come out to the hills. It's a poor state. And, if this season turns out to be a dud, then many will be poorer, because many depend on the ski industry for direct or indirect income. For instance, there will be super minimal ski school services at Killington, which means all those employees who got free family passes, part timers too, are now out of income and deciding to buy expensive passes. More like that. This will probably work to the mountain's advantage, reducing demand naturally.
I do think there is a good chance that shutdown is the most fiscally prudent move. In VT Ski + Ride there seems to be this idea that "we shouldn't let out-of-staters ruin "our season." WTF?
How much of the VT ski industry is from VT? In NoVT it might be 30 or 40%, but in SoVT I bet it is much lower.
I have been thinking that all of these regulations will reduce demand naturally, as you say, because only the hard core are going to put up with all the new inconveniences, like eating your own lunch in your car in a cold, snowy day, and using a porta john in ten degree weather. I mean, I'm not looking forward to it.
