Cuomo says ski areas in NY to open at 50% Capacity

I have enough angst getting to lodge early to avoid people in normal circumstances and every lodge I have been at lunch time has been an absolute cluster with fighting for place to sit. For this to work - you need reservations / limit the total amount of skiers. I keep telling myself - why am I getting all anxiety over it - it's skiing - a luxury....just skip the year ...but i hear the words of WuTang echo in my head....it's for the children ....skiing is for the children.

Thanks for this. I spoke to an ORDA representative about this yesterday, specifically about capacity. The response was "we don't know what is up until we hear from the governor's office." So there it is.

They question is, what does this mean for passholders? And how will capacity be determined? I'd doubt Gore is at 75% on too many days. But it is also terrain based, so...
I predict many class action suits against ski areas and conglomerates that sold passes that weren't as advertised. Much like many universities and private schools are being sued already for 50 grand Zoom classes.

New regs fine print mandate a 35% reduction
The govenorer's presser bullet point indicates 25% reduction.
"Reduce outdoor capacity on mountain by 25% during "peak" days or if multiple trails are closed due to unseasonable conditions".
Where’d ya see the 35% reduction mandate?
Anyway’s in winter lifts and trails close and open variably so calculations could be challenging.

Exactly
No f en way I’m going to walk 1/4 of a mile in ski boots
I imagined the day would would eventually come that I would quit downhill skiing. This might just do it
1/4 mile isn’t that bad! If you really dislike it that much just get there early.

I often leave home so I’m In the lot an hour before the lifts spin to beat traffic and secure a good spot. It’s worth it imo.

it looks like Covid numbers are exploding now. Has the president reacted to this yet? Crickets on his end?

Everyone likes to give Benny shit for being a negative Nancy on TGR but I unfortunately agree with him on this winter. It’s F-d.

I read it as the governor mandated a 35% reduction on pooping, lol. with the limitations on bars and restaurants i'm probaly running right around there, enforcement will be interesting.

I always been a lot booter upper and and do most of my apres at the Trunk and Tire so no worries there

This will probably work to the mountain's advantage, reducing demand naturally.

I do think there is a good chance that shutdown is the most fiscally prudent move. In VT Ski + Ride there seems to be this idea that "we shouldn't let out-of-staters ruin "our season." WTF?

How much of the VT ski industry is from VT? In NoVT it might be 30 or 40%, but in SoVT I bet it is much lower.

Look into “Gripwalks” they can be added to some boots , need compatible bindings to use them, makes walking easier and safer
