Cuomo says ski areas in NY to open at 50% Capacity

Killington is allowing only ticketed skiers into their lodges this year. There will only be one way to enter these to control numbers. I imagine something similar will be happening at Gore/Whiteface. There have always been large numbers of people in the lodges that do not ski, perhaps 20%? These are often parents/grandparents/drivers of kids/nonskiing spouses etc. and it will be sad to not have them there, but it should improve access for skiers who need to use the bathroom, get something to eat or warm up.

Essentially "ski resorts" will be "ski areas" this season, no matter what the weather is like. From what I read, a lot colder in the northern midwest than most of New England. What do you think @MiSkier ?

I switched over to shell pants years ago. When doing a ski safari in the northeast, there have been times that I've driving a couple hours from the last motel to where I'm going to ski for that day. Even though I was booting up in the lodge, I would put on my shell pants in the parking lot, along with jacket, hat, gloves etc. I don't put on ski socks until just before I boot up.

There are assorted ways to keep ski boots a bit warmer if booting up in the car. Meaning besides investing in a heated boot bag.

it's fucking cold here. i actually wear my ski pants and boot up in car on weekends. ski for 4-5 hrs straight and i'm out

indeed. I’ve become extremely soft living here with the Arizona sun.

if I was forced to move back east I’m not sure I would continue skiing.

How could anyone possibly know what the weather will be like 3-6 months from now?
Haha. I'm a statistician not a weather geek. Historical weather data is good enough to know whether or not northern Michigan is probably colder than upstate NY in Jan and Feb.

Here's what people going to Boyne Mountain can expect. Normally I would consider Boyne Mountain a "ski resort" since it has slopeside lodging and family oriented amenities, not just a bunch of lifts. Nub's Nob across the road is a ski area that doesn't even have any summer activities. Have heard the Nub's plan on some podcast. It won't be much different than Boyne Mountain this season.

Base Lodge Restrictions
Capacity will be strictly limited inside the base lodges and food court this season - gear storage and changing will not be permitted. Guests should come prepared to boot up in their cars, and only bring with them items that can be carried throughout the day (small day packs, for example). Guests should expect to spend minimal time indoors during their visit. For those looking to access ski lockers, follow the directional signage and expect strict time limits at your locker.
