Catskill 4 Area Discussion

I bristle at the yellow circle for Central NY extending into the Southern Tier all the way to the state line below Binghamton. CNY ends at Marathon!
Dude, they are merely circling those ski areas.

So Greek Peak is the southern most ski area in CNY.

And you know it bro!

The Capital Region is a zone we don't have.
Also, Windham and Catamount are equidistant from downtown Albany. 45-50 miles and the drive is one hour to both.

I get that you’re trying to make definitive regions or zones

Yes. When you have a directory, you either have no regions, or you have to choose regions. I choose to have regions, because I thought it would be more useful.

The friction points I've seen:

Holiday really wants people to consider them Catskills
Brownski thinks Catamount should be with the Catskills (or at least he said it once)
Rips says Windham and Catamount are equidistant from downtown Albany
Maple and Williard are a stretch as Adk.

Windham is actually in the Catskills. It's not about distance, it's about 'where are you.'
Woods isn't exactly Tug, and certainly not Adk. (Personally I think Woods is CNY.)

What am I missing? If this is all there is, IMO Capital District makes sense.

I don’t see a problem with the directory regions the way it is now. Not sure if a Capital region would make it any better.

The NY Skier’s map shows two ski areas near the Cats along the Thruway. I assume they are Sawkill and Rocking Horse Ranch but it is not an interactive map so I don't know for sure.

Sawkill is most definitely closed.

Rocking Horse is currently open with their magic carpet but it is for overnight guests only.

Villa Roma is also open this year but is closed to the public when there is a conference which is most of the time. You must call ahead.

If Holiday wants to be in the Cats, you would have to include Villa. Then I would have to bike and ski the Catskill 6.

My point about Catamount was that it’s about 1000 feet and close to the same distance from the city as the Catskills hills so it didn’t really make sense to call it downstate along with Mt Peter and Thunder Ridge. There is no perfect system but maybe a Capital Region makes sense. It works as is though. You can’t make everybody happy
