The interesting item that even the article ignores is that this was discovered due to legal gambling. Multiple states with sports books can now see oddball bets and remove and investigate the bets. In the old days of unregulated, illegal gambling, it would have been harder to notice with only the Las Vegas sports book. The illegal bookies in Ohio might have known, but the public and the athletes would have been hosed again.
