Bad Wipeout

Worst crash : flying header on Toboggan at Tremblant . 4 of us playing skiercross at fairly high speed . The trail on the Versant Sud side lends itself to GS. It's a Series of rollers followed by quick drops etc. it was subzero temps . It was early in the day i hit some death cookies from the groomer they were on the skiers extreme left just under the lip of one of the quick drop offs.

Went flying head first and remember thinking as i was flying : This is gonna hurt, relax , drop the poles and turn your head . Well i hit hard and the skis released . Two of my buddies went to get the ski patrol at the base, one buddy stayed with me. The impact was spectacular, they bust my chops for years on the Quality of the Roostertail i threw up in this effing yardsale ??

My friend says "stay down" well i said Bill, if i don't get back up on these things now i may never ski again . Frankly it scared shit outta me.

I got back on them before the patrol got up on the mountain , We skied for the next 3 days there, but still have a damn groin pull which did not require surgery but requires Daily stretching to thisday . Fortunately i did not hit the head in adirect blow . I think relaxing not tensing up might have lessened the impact........

.I fractured two wrists in other falls very early in my skiing career but this incident was far scarier

Na, ...detracts from the pristine commune with nature one gets from resort skiing.?

Stayed at the base lodge on that side once on a trip with a ski bus. Dude tapped a keg on the way up, screwed up their hand skiing, was quiet as a church mouse on the way home. Fun trip but the sub zero temps slowed the snow and the skiing.

I went to Tremblant every year for several decades d with 30'guys from all over NNY . Great group we used to rent an entire monastery ( until it was sold to Michael Douglass and Catherine Zeta Jones since the order of Brothers that owned it were reduced to only 6 men and they moved to Montreal ) It was on Lac Superier on the Versant Nord side
Several of the group were priests , so we got a great deal on the lodging and meals

.Once we skied that mountain at 35 below zero windchill at the top , it was fierce , but the skiing that day was magnificent .snow conditions were fast and uncrowded . Few were out except the diehards . We would take 6 runs and then go in for some hot chocolate . We skied all day .

Tremblant has something for everyone , but we actually preferred the Versant Nord side

The last time I skied Versant Nord, the air temp was -31 F. The snow was perfect.

I remember they had mirrors to see if exposed skin was blue yet.
We stayed right at the base in a big old lodge. Quebecer that owned/ran it woke everyone up by playing his sax through the hallways to announce breakfast was ready. Great food, good times and good skiing. All the cold ya wanted to boot. From the top I thought I saw the article-circle.

Its a well known fact Tremblant can be colder than a Well Digger's ass ?.

Just sayin' Great skiing , but ya gotta be a hardy North Country woodchuck or a Hinterlandian ?Eh SBR , TD !

Yup, that’s the same place. Didn’t know it was a monastery. Lord knows when we were there it wasn’t. Bus had problems due to diesel gelling up. On the way up near Montreal there was a lightning snow storm. Snow was great just really cold.
