Winter Weather 22/23

I'm staying in NY (well moving there) because I like the woods, and the trees, and the water. It's comfortable I guess.

I figure moving to the mountains, even with decreasing winters, will get me many more days, and more good days too. Cork skis 120-150 and he's got a job. I should be able get 100 as a retired guy.

Plus there is nordic, hiking and of course putzing on our property.

I'll let you know in 10 years if it was the right call.
Black flies
I've seen them pick toddlers up
If I had to pick the only negative about the ADK that's what it would be.

It's a long season too. Bugs I mean. Seems like sometime in April now until August or even later.

I'll have to figure out something that interests me to do out on the porch.

PNW looks cool to me. That's where I would go, if I were to go.

Everybody calm the fuck down. Between this thread and Skiings Future I am a little bummed. NY skiers are supposed to be resilient right? It will snow eventually. Everything is gonna be ok. Back away from the ledge
I’m gonna go skiing tomorrow with the usual suspects. Even bought a longass shoehorn yesterday. F’n wallymart.
Skiing is fun.

You know it never occurred to me to use a shoehorn with my ski boots. Do they make special ski-boot-horns?

Back away from the ledge
I’m gonna back away and skate as fast as I can so I can huck it at full speed.

I destroyed brand new liners once from heel strike and luckily Salomon replaced them. I started using a longass shoehorn that my sisters used for horseback riding boots. Someone should rebrand them for skiing.

Tractor supply’s web page said they had some long plastic ones for the store in Auburn. Went there & shelf was empty.
Bought some cat food for kitty and dried mealworms for the bluebirds.
Wallymart had one that looks like a horse racing whip with a small shoe horn hooked to the bottom with a spring.
I’ve yet to work up the courage to try it in the left ski boot. Was thinking of just making one outta a gallon plastic jug.
Or get one of these.

Amazing that I said, “west” and you guys assumed the exact location that I was talking about. PNW still gets a pretty good amount of rain as far as I can tell.
My coworkers in Santa Cruz County who lost their homes CZU fire in 2020 are currently being evacuated due to flooding. I know it's not the the PNW but it's not as if the coastal zones of the west coast are without their own significant issues. Personally I'll stick with our relatively tame weather patterns out east, even if that means more inconsistent snow.
