Windham Mountain Going Private?

Billionaire Bill Ziff spent decades building an arboretum on his 2,000 acre estate in Pawling. At one point he had 350 people working there making him the largest employer in Dutchess County aside from IBM. Was he not a job creator?
He provided the demand, and it sounds like it was a temporary demand.

I have never heard of this place. How many people work there now? Is this place open to the public?

How does this differ from property tax?

Read about it:

He passed away. It is not open to the public. I don’t know how many people work there now. I suppose decades is temporary. IBM came and went in that timeframe too.

Sounds like a bit of a fucky tax structure for farmers, timber harvesters and anyone else trying to make a living off their acreage.
Kinda? But lots of land in timber country isn’t really as valuable as, say, half an acre in a city.

But yes, I think it would hit the people in those towns out west that have 6 acres and an empty vacation house.

On one level, I agree: without the wealthy, there would be *fewer* jobs
This is the oldest false argument for trickle down economics that never seems to go away. Remove a bunch of *illionaires and sure a few industries like luxury yachting will suffer, but if you give a rich person $1000, and a poor person $1000 who do you think will spend it?
