West Mountain Conditions

Surprisingly really good today at West. Stuck to the Apex Chair as the NW Base coverage is really solid. No real bare spots to speak of, great job by their grooming team. AOA was excellent. I'm not a fan of how Midway rides starting with the headwall. Snow started to get heavy and chunky by around 230, but all in all a great day. They'll keep the NW Base open thru the weekend for their Fest this weekend, then it looks like lights out as there will be no midweek skiing next week. Looks like I got my last turns in for the season. Fun day.

If West were a little bigger, they might be onto something there. As it is, I don’t see that being successful

Depends more on the summer season than the winter season for success for that type of lodging development. Being close to Lake George and Queensbury is a plus. Many of the families I saw on Pres. Day seemed like the type who would be happy to stay slopeside if there were an option.

Not sure. I will be looking into buying a spot here perhaps as a property to offer summer Saratoga/Track and LG vacationers - plus potential winter holiday travelers - 45 minutes to Gore, 1.5 HR to Whiteface, etc. Thought I heard they were looking into further on-mountain skiing development as well. Very interested in how this evolves.

I stay in n LG, when skiing Gore and Whiteface. The nicer Hotel , I stay at only when the wife comes along, is always filled with Racer’s, during the main part of the season.
I think these family’s would stay on the mountain, if the dollar amount was close in comparison.

We’ll see I guess. I stand by my statement. This either won’t happen or it’ll be another boondoggle.

"He said that other than in one instance in the western part of the state — Holiday Valley Resort in Ellicottville, in the Southern Tier — there isn’t a “true ski-and-stay experience” in New York."
Whatabout Greek?
