Total Solar Eclipse coming to NY: April 8, 2024

Couldn’t see shit with eclipse glasses on. There went a $1.99. Could make out the shape of a white crescent sun through the clouds for a second every once in a great while.
A best zoomed screenshot pre-totatilty from a phone video I took. They mighta peaked out again.

I didn't see it.

I had some questions, that if answered, I probably would have stayed.

It was a great weekend, but I didn't see the full eclipse.

I tried to answer every question you posed! What other questions were there? Why were you not at your cabin? You could have stayed there until traffic cleared.

No I had to work today. As it was I was pushing it taking yesterday off.

I take my responsibility, I knew either choice was a risk. I am surprised at how the traffic was not really a big issue. Cars were coming north steadily for three days. The second step of my foundation pour was cancelled because the truck turned around, not willing to deal with the traffic.

My questions:

What percent of cloud cover is a deal breaker
Is the 64 seconds of totality projected for my location accurate

According to my neighbor the cloud cover was significant but not enough to ruin it, and totality lasted for 64 seconds.

I might not have asked about the cover, because you just kept posting the head bang thing. But I did ask about the 64 seconds, you said something about the edge being susceptible to crevasses in the surface of the moon.

Like I said I had a great weekend. I will remember, skiing with my daughter and seeing the progress on our house.

IDK... I saw easily a dozen FB posts with fotos of horror show traffic on the Northway and Route 73.

It's not percent of cloud, it's type of cloud. High cirrus you see most effects except outer corona. That occurred in Mazatlan and some of your area in the Adirondacks and was the worst case prediction for Lake Champlain area, which from reports was better than that. Medium to low clouds can be more opaque and can hide the Sun completely. That's what's considered a bust. South Texas, Syracuse to Niagara in New York were mostly busts from what I've heard.

Presumably from a site like this, extremely accurate because it accounts for lunar limb profile.

This I don't get. You don't live THAT far away. You can drive from 2-5AM if that's what it takes and you're relaxing/napping in your cabin in the meantime. Lots of skiers make crazier drives than that for the best powder days if necessary.

I'm not trying to answer for Harv in any sort of way but I gotta say that the older I get the less moves like that are on the table. I mean, I could but I'm gonna pay for it!
