Total Solar Eclipse coming to NY: April 8, 2024

My camera has a video screen. So save it for the moment, point and shoot once and be done with it.

Like I said, I don't think ORDA will care about my opinion, but did email someone. Be interesting to see if I get a response.
What's Gore doing that's so bad?

Not sure exactly but 6 or 7 years ago the big hype of the eclipse in the west was on. Stanley Idaho was the epicenter. Stores bought extra stuff, restaurants looked for more help. The hype was on….. then nothing happened! No one showed up.
The orbits of the moon & earth are elliptical.
So ya get elliptical eclipses.
’24’s totality casts a wider shadow & lasts a bit longer on the center line for this one.
The tides due to gravity will be high.
If ya don’t wanna watch it take a nice nap.

Tony feels that an event marking the eclipse in a spot that isn't in the totality zone is a mistake.
I’ll ask this one again another way.
Can anyone verify on a map the top of Gore Mountain is not in the totality zone?
Edit: Just checked the link Harv put up when he started this thread.
The base of High Peaks quad, the snowmaking reservoir and the ski bowl are closest but still no cigar.

We aren’t gonna change our orbits & projected tilt before then.

It's great hearing everyone cheering in that Stanley, Idaho clip. I'm convinced that I'd enjoy experiencing it but my family and I just don't have the bandwidth for 5-ish hours in each direction plus an overnight somewhere.
I'd argue that seeing the northern lights is cooler

I saw them while camping in northern Quebec and they were gorgeous -- hearing wolves howling in the distance made it even better. But you haven't seen a full-totality eclipse, right?
100% true...but from a planning and viewing time ...seems like more bang for the buck...
