The Storm Skiing Journal comes down hard on ORDA

I am generally progressive, and question the feasibility of privatization of many functions of government, but should New York be owning major Ski areas, ? especially in the Cats where there are three big private areas? Would skiers and the taxpayers be better off if the areas were sold or rented out? I think these are legitimate questions, and I would love to hear other's take on them. I have mixed feelings and have happily skied every ORDA area many times. On the other hand I do strongly believe that the state or locals should open smaller feeder areas. Campgaw in Jersey is an example. I believe it is funded by Bergen County NJ. The place is fabulous for learners and small fry. Jersey used to have a few small hills serving the dense population, as far as I know all are defunct except for Campgaw. My kids learned at Craigmeir in Morris County, they loved to go up and down twenty times a night with no adult trailing them on a slope maybe as long as two or three football fields, They went after school and became life long skiers, the lodge was like a junior high birthday party , not real great for the parents , but boy did they have fun. If the government won't do it, the big corporations should really invest in reopening these small areas even if they lose money. Anyone can see that without the feeder areas the sport will wither.

Olympics are international.
Wouldn’t be hard to beat the venues for the 2022 games.
2026 will be in Northern Italy & Tirol.
Better food and prettier places.
It actually snows too in the Alps, so there’s that.
it used to snow north of Beijing, climate is changing and quickly

Um, yeah. Cortina is far from any sort of glamorous "city" mentioned above... Its a real ski town with a long history hosting WC events. Now, Milan, hours away, will probably be a media base and is hosting indoor events, but, at least it's got great food and fashion. Doubtful we'll be seeing nuclear plant cooling towers as a backdrop for certain events. Who the hell approved that?
The cement towers were used for cooling the steel mills that were there before, allegedly.
Folks decorated it with the IOC’s rainbow rings for the show.

There is not enough of everything - access, beds, facilities, etc. This is why they need to have most of the winter olympics based out of cities - Sochi, Turin, Nogano, Vancouver, Calgary, Salt Lake City, and now Beijing.
Is it that crazy to have a winter Olympics that are held in "New York", but some of the events take place 5 hours away in Lake Placid? It's a drive to the mountains from most of these cities.

I always thought New England would make a great location. You could have events in all 6 states.

Yeah true it could be held in Boston, but the "New England" olympics doesn't have the same ring to it as the "New York" olympics.

I also don't know Boston's infrastructure that well but NYC is pretty well setup for it between MSG, Barclays, and even the Prudential Center. I'm probably missing some things, but it's really just the ski and sledding events that would need to be held up in LP?

I think it would work, and what an experience it would be for the athletes. I mean, NYC has it all.

Don’t forget Jersey.
They held special-Olympics at Mountain Creek in 19.

I don't think you spend $500M on upgrading venues for some university students. A statewide bid would make sense, and IOC rules allow for it. It will have been 20 years since a winter games was hosted in a N. America time zone. The next decision is scheduled for this fall. Just saying....
