The Plattekill Bump Thread

There are some really cool things coming down.

Can't talk about all of it yet, but what I can say is that this pipe is going to make all my dreams come true.

Laz has committed to blowing the full length of Plunge, leaving the lower half ungroomed, where it separates from Giant Slalom.

"We will make snow on it and not groom it."

I AM SO PUMPED.

The line will take 2-4 weeks to complete, depending on the weather. More pics to follow as the pipe is laid.

What’s their usual closing date? I really need to visit my grandmother soon, maybe I can tie that in with some ski days at Plattekill.

Can I get an effort from some of ya to meet and ski if I can make this happen?

hopefully I can bring my daughter along.

Early to mid April usually I think. And I will definitely meet up. Can’t promise I’ll be able to keep up with you though

The earliest closing I remember, was *I think* March 18 2012.

It was in the 80s-90s for like 10 days in early March.

I think this was the day before closing day:

FWIW Plattekill had been promising the bump content during the season and had to build them by hand in the days before the contest. Not close to ideal, but the day was fun as hell.

It was weird for me, the only time I've really missed skiing due to injury, I had torn a muscle badly a few days earlier...

That trail is pretty shaded in that spot and should hold snow. I want to turn our annual meeting into a thing were we spend a ton of money at the bar and tell Laz we are doing it so he blows it deep as hell. Or something. Ideas welcome.

That’s on your birthday right? Early/mid January-ish if I remember correctly? That sounds really fun but maybe too risky for me to commit to. Regardless, I’m down to throw down at the bar and stay at the local hotel.

Jan 8 is my birthday, doesn't alway fall on a day Plattekill is open.

We've had some great days, but you are right that is definitely a dicey time. And it's doubtful there would be bumps yet.

I've always thought he should blow Plunge second, after Face. But the news above is very cool, not ready to push my luck. Maybe raise the issue over a beer.
