The Indy Pass

The important part of the announcement:

"Grand County, CO. (March 28, 2023) – The Indy Pass released today an updated list of resorts that have committed for the 23/24 season. As of this date, 102 out of 105 Indy Alpine resorts participating in 22/23 will return for next season. Snow Valley, Mt. Hood Meadows, and Mt. Ashland are the three uncommitted resorts. Alterra acquired Snow Valley, Mt. Hood Meadows, and Mt. Ashland are expected to renew. . . ."

I haven't decided what to do next March, but I'm hoping that using the Indy Pass is a region I don't normally ski will be part of the plan.

From a post in the Indy Passholders FB Group: "Mt. Ashland has since re-committed, meaning the only holdout is Mt. Hood Meadows, which confirmed to me [Stuart Winchester] that it would make a decision at the end of its (very long) season."

MEDIA RELEASE

23/24 Indy Pass Sales to End at Midnight on Monday, April 10

After experiencing record sales, new passes will be taken off sale to preserve the experience for guests and partner resorts.

Grand County, CO. (April 9, 2023) – The Indy Pass announced today that pass sales for the 23/24 season will end on Monday, April 10, at midnight. A limited number of passes may be released this fall after evaluating capacity with resort partners for the upcoming season.

In prior years, Indy Passes have sold through mid-winter. However, record 22/23 pass sales, 23/24 renewals, and unprecedented new passholders for the upcoming season have made this cutoff necessary.

“To preserve the independent and uncrowded skiing experience we all know and love, we are pumping the brakes on pass sales. During the off-season, we will work with our partner resorts to assess their peak-day capacity while we strive to expand our overall capacity by signing new resorts, said Doug Fish, Indy Pass Founder.

Mt. Hood Meadows and Mt. Ashland Renew for 23/24

Mt. Hood Meadows and Mt. Ashland, both in Oregon, will join 102 resorts that are returning for the 23/24 season. "We had a great first season on the Indy Pass, continue to see strong visitation, and look forward to welcoming even more passholders from across the US next season," said Dave Tragethon, Mt Hood Meadows marketing director.

Returning Cross-country and Allied Resort partners will be announced in May.

The storm skiing journal podcast just released an interview with Doug Fish, the founder of the the Indy pass. Definitely interesting.

I've really gotten to like that podcast. Stuart interviews some really interesting ski business leaders and I think he does a good job.

I listen to Stu a lot. I like him but here are a few suggestions:

A. He needs to talk faster. I know he’s from the Midwest but I have to listen on 1.25X to stay engaged.

2 Also, he needs to broaden his subject matter. Resort CEOs are fine but how about some athletes, filmmakers or authors?

3. How about some round tables? Maybe a few long term ground level resort employees?

He is passionate and skilled at the basic softball interview but I think he could do a lot more.

Hmm I just sped up his podcast to 1.2x and it's easier to follow

Yeah, I understand that’s his focus. I’m saying it’s wrong. He doesn’t have to do rah rah, check out my sick footy coverage of the pros. He could dive into the details of trying to make a living as what’s essentially an independent contractor in a nebulous inconsistent industry. There are lots of nuts and bolts details and issues that people would find interesting. CEOs, GMs and marketing guys can get boring and repetitive. Some of them are great- I always love Doug Fish- but some of them are just robots. Interestingly the guy who runs Big Snow and Mountain Creek was pretty cool too.He was one of the best. I never would have guessed that.
