The Generations of Music

I would find it hard to believe that I'm the only one in this thread that does this and I'm curious to hear what others listen to.
On rare occasion, when carving inbounds groomers, I sometimes have played music. Usually some hard charging Jane’s Addiction with a beat suitable for coming down the mountain. I never listen to music when things get technical in terrain of consequence, especially in avy terrain no matter the stated risk level, not even on the skin track.

I like me some Jane's Addiction. I also put the music on pause if I'm someplace unfamiliar and the terrain is technical, or conditions are poor, or anywhere in the backcountry. I'm talking about skiing runs like Cloudspin or Skyward which I can see from my living room and have skied more times than I can count. It turns skiing into a kind of dance and I derive tremendous joy from it.

There is definitely good music being made today. Last time MC railed against the old fogies he shared a song from a band called Eastbound Jesus that made it onto one of my playlists. Then there’s Frank Turner, Old Crow Medicine Show, Cage the Elephant. Of course time moves fast as you age.. Some of them might be considered old already.

Galaxy 500, Gov't Mule, Antietam, Brian Jonestown Massacre.... I should look at the playlist from WFMU's morning show.

classic rock, skier v. snowboard, music while skiing/riding, what's next helmet thread? gawd it needs to snow soon ?

Maybe that’s MCs problem (well, one on them at least :p), and why he’s afraid to share his own musical stylings…..I mean, did millennials have much good original music to grow up on, influential stuff?
Yeah, but it wasn’t in the “generic rock” genre. You gotta branch into hip hop and alternative.

Now I listen to a lot of newer Bluegrass (Trampled by Turtles, Brothers Comatose, Devil Makes Three, Billy Strings), drum & bass instrumentals (RJD2-ish stuff), Irish punk rock (flogging molly/dropkick Murphys/Blaggards) & still a good amount of hip hop (J Cole, Kid Cudi, DaBaby, Jack Harlow, 2010s Kanye, Drake, Wayne, etc.)

Classic Rock is fine, but you guys always seem like like “Fuck yeah! Free Falling for the 40,000th time!!”

Maybe I just like a little more variety. You guys should check out bands like The Hold Steady, TV on the Radio, the Black Keys if you want more radio rock… I don’t know man, I just think there is so much good music out there, talking about Van Halen for the 50th time is boring.

Not really a fan of Petty, the Cars, Van Halen, GnR and the like. My biggest problem is I don’t have time to listen to music. Shame really because we put in a pretty nice 7.1 system a few years ago, cranking the Eric Prydz can be a lot of fun.
