Spring Weather 2023

The weather in the northeast is so erratic! Ski areas have gone from everything open to total melt down in what…2 weeks?!

Couple of warm days this weekend at Alta. Perfect spring skiing all day today. Pretty much all the terrain off the open lifts was open: Sunnyside, Sugarloaf, Collins.

A little warmer on Monday, April 17, so there will be a long midday road closure starting at 11:00am until at least 7:00pm. Traffic will be allowed in the Town of Alta and between Alta and Snowbird.

After that, a cold front with snow comes in for a few days. I'll be at Alta all week. :)

Smaller dots are people, there are a couple skiers in the "snake" or "wiggle"

Actually didn't get too warm today. Road re-opened at 2pm. There weren't many people who drove up though. Parking lots were pretty empty. Of course, it's a Monday during late season.

After about 10:30, there was good soft snow all over Alta and in in parts of Mineral Basin. Front side of Snowbird was still very firm when we went back to Alta for lunch. Everything off Collins was good in the afternoon.

Snow expected to start tonight.

Weird snow and temperature situation at Alta today, April 19. Official total for new snow was 5 inches. Temps were in the 20s all day but the sun was out by 8:30am. Any snow in the sun got baked by mid-morning. Had to know Alta well to find cold snow in trees after lunch. It was too bad that Supreme is closed for the season. Wildcat was open but we went exploring elsewhere.
