If the decision was purely about skiing, either Nelson or Revelstoke for the combination of big snowfalls, low skier density and endless touring opportunities.
However, life is much more than just skiing and small, isolated towns such as these would feel quite suffocating after a while.
I had the opportunity to move anywhere within the US and Canada a couple years ago. I always wanted to fuse the outdoor lifestyle I grew up with just outside Lake George with the city life I grew to love after a decade of living in and around NYC. Vancouver seemed like the best of both worlds.
So far, I have absolutely no regrets moving here. I’m 15 minutes away from a lake that reminds me of Lower Ausable Lake, 20 minutes from a fjord that resembles Lake George, a 30 minute bike ride to 3 mountain bike parks—all while living in a neighborhood where I can walk to everything I need. I sometimes miss my family back east, but ultimately I’m so much happier here.
The grass is not always greener, but sometimes it is.
