Ski Bowl 3.0 at Gore

It appears the beginner T-bar operated until the Village Chair replaced it. It just wasn't operated by ORDA.

Sno…..I was working at Gore and living in the area at the time. You were probably in diapers. By 2003 the Ski Bowl was not a lift served ski area. I did see a bluegrass concert and a traveling circus there though in that era.

The 2001 pictures show the T-Bar to be in operational condition and given that tower pads were installed, it was likely being used. The Nelsap article said it ran on weekends, and that there was no snowmaking, but that Gore would occasionally loan them a groomer. It's possible that it fell out of use after that, but before the Village Chair opened.

Nope. You do not need to spend $30,000,000 for a lodge in the barely used Ski Bowl. The handful high school kids who may show up to practice one or 2 days per week and a handful of nordic races races on weekends do not support spending and operating an 18,300 sq foot $30,000,000 lodge. Mittersill in NH just built a 9200 sq ft lodge for $2.9million. The ORDA arrogance rears its ugly head once again.

As if anything nordic would happen in the Ski Bowl if there was no downhill skiing. You keep pretending that nordic is moving the needle for visits at Gore, it is not.

Hordes - what a laugh.
Speaking of schools, maybe if ORDA was wiser about spending at Gore, the Johnsburg Central School would not have a student population that is considered 43% economically disadvantaged.

ORDA’s legislative mandate is to:
1. Institute a comprehensive, coordinated program of activities utilizing the Olympic facilities, Gore Mountain, and Belleayre Mountain, in and around Lake Placid, North Creek, and Highmount, New York, in order to ensure optimum year-round use and enjoyment of these facilities to the economic and social benefit of the regions and to minimize the financial burden on state and local government by maximizing revenue opportunities.

ORDA is failing North Creek on the economic benefits. Spending $30million on a lodge at the Ski Bowl proves my point.
Yup, barely a handful. Check out some of these handfuls: https://goremountain.com/nordic-center-events/
Or the handful of finishers at these events: https://underdogtiming.com/2023-race-results
In case you didn’t get it - SARCASM ALERT!!!
Based on relative number of skier-days, including anyone on a Gore pass who skied even one run down to the yurt, maybe ORDA should forget about alpine at the Bowl and turn it 100% over to the nordic skiers.
As the French say, f’in retard!

Nope, the t bar had not operated from the mid 80's on.

And if there is so much money to be made off of the nordic skiers, how come they haven't served any food or drinks there in 3 years AND there isn't even a vending machine there providing some munchies and drinks! The lift mechanics and electricians are dreading the installation of a HSQ at the SB because of the additional and contact maintenance required and that they will have to staff someone there to prevent long delays if the lift goes down.

Unfortunately, It's a joke that they want spend the money on a project of that scope at the ski bowl, but as others have mentioned, when orda wants to spend money in your town, you don't say no...as the town board from many eras has always wilted to the big brother pressure.

Exactly
They should build a facility that would directly benefit locals. The old lodge was so cool. I know folks rented it for all kinds of events because it was affordable.

Wow- less than 1000 high school participants in all those races. That is a huge number(sarcasm). That's really bumping Gore's visits (sarcasm). To bad it amounts to almost zero revenue(truth). If there was money to be made in Nordic skiing, there would be snowmaking at every Nordic area in the country, not just at NYS run debacles.

However, I am sure those Wednesday night events are huge draws at Gore (sarcasm). As for revenue, not so much:
"These events are free for all ticketed guests and season passholders; otherwise, a reduced twilight nordic trail fee of $12 includes registration."

You need to come to terms with your delusions that Nordic skiing is popular enough at Gore to support building a $30million lodge. It is not. A Gore Nordic season pass is $129. A day pass is $20. The cheapest downhill season pass at Gore that allows you to ski weekends is $699 with blackout dates. A day pass is $109. It is called math.

Maybe the new accommodations will kick start the front street project?

If there was a food concession or vending machines there during events they would be making a ton of money. Haven’t you seen the alpine racer kids eat in the main lodge? Those racers and families know there’s nothing at the Ski Bowl except a bathroom and a place to sit while you boot up, they are bringing their own food and drink. At least there was a food truck parked outside one weekday a few years ago when I skied down so I could get a cup of coffee.
Obviously the town and ORDA have given up on a building with all the appeal of a 70s double wide trailer. You’re still crying about the lodge that burned down 24 years ago instead of being happy that someone wants to build a new one?
Gore has all the snowmaking capacity it needs if it doesn’t spend every December and January building a glacier on Wild Air and Arena.

Double wide trailer??? Have you seen the atrocity that they want to build here? It looks like a new terminal at LaGuardia! Fucking ugly like the MVH lodge. At least have it look like the WF midstation.

I'm not crying about the old lodge ( and not sure where you pulled that bs from), I'm just saying why can't they at least serve something at the present lodge beside a load of BS about the new shiny toy. Every business in town is hurting for help, so ORDA says lets build a year round lodge/restaurant. You mark my words this lodge and the lift will be used sparingly at best, after the first year desperate attempt to save face.
ORDA could build some employee housing with some of that money, but ORDA ignores the problem.

The majority of residents in town (yes, the town where you do not live) are against this fiasco and takeover of our town park year round.
