Ski Bowl 3.0 at Gore

What? It has to do with the skiing public and ORDA's inability to keep the Ski Bowl open now due to lack of traffic. How does spending $30 million on a new lodge at the Ski Bowl change the current lack of traffic that keeps the Ski Bowl closed?

Hilarious. After spending $60 MILLION on Mt Van Ho, ORDA will never allow any national/international events at the Ski Bowl. High school and citizen Nordic racing does zero to support building a $30 million lodge at North Creek.

By the way, thanks for adding some humor to the discussion by mentioning rare sport of Biathlon. The cost to participate in Biathlon makes skiing look affordable. The Empire State Games Biathlon Super Sprint Race in Feb had a miniscule total of about 37 (thirty-seven ) participants over all age groups. That included all male and all female athletes starting with boy/girl (age 13-16) ranging up to Master 70 (age 70+).

I think adding and maintaining a biathlon range at the Ski Bowl would be a perfect use of ORDA funds.
The last sentence is an example of sarcasm.
Thanks for proving my point. The Ski Bowl expansion is not just for your alpine skiing pleasure or lack thereof. MVH will be the venue for national and international nordic compedition, but Ski Bowl is already being used not only for regional high school and other Nordic racing, but for area school teams to practice on a daily basis. There is no longer dependable natural snow in Queensbury, Glens Falls and points south. I would venture to say that the new lodge is more intended for daily use by those groups than for weekend/ holiday alpine. You may have to share the new lodge with hordes of Nordic skiers there for weekend races. The current building is inadequate and obsolete for any purpose.
The biathlon range was the only part of my post intended as humor, but I guess you didn’t get it. There already is a course/range serving the capital region and south Adirondacks in the town of Day where it gets pretty good natural snow.

Version 1.75 was when it reopened as just a tubing hill circa 2002.

I believe after Gore opened, the North Creek Ski Bowl was operated by the town. The main T-bar fell out of use in the 80s. The beginner T-bar continued to operate until the village chair replaced it in 2007. I considered the era up to 2007 to be Ski Bowl 1.0.

These pictures were taken in 2001 and 2002.

Nope. You do not need to spend $30,000,000 for a lodge in the barely used Ski Bowl. The handful high school kids who may show up to practice one or 2 days per week and a handful of nordic races races on weekends do not support spending and operating an 18,300 sq foot $30,000,000 lodge. Mittersill in NH just built a 9200 sq ft lodge for $2.9million. The ORDA arrogance rears its ugly head once again.

As if anything nordic would happen in the Ski Bowl if there was no downhill skiing. You keep pretending that nordic is moving the needle for visits at Gore, it is not.

Hordes - what a laugh.
Speaking of schools, maybe if ORDA was wiser about spending at Gore, the Johnsburg Central School would not have a student population that is considered 43% economically disadvantaged.

ORDA’s legislative mandate is to:
1. Institute a comprehensive, coordinated program of activities utilizing the Olympic facilities, Gore Mountain, and Belleayre Mountain, in and around Lake Placid, North Creek, and Highmount, New York, in order to ensure optimum year-round use and enjoyment of these facilities to the economic and social benefit of the regions and to minimize the financial burden on state and local government by maximizing revenue opportunities.

ORDA is failing North Creek on the economic benefits. Spending $30million on a lodge at the Ski Bowl proves my point.

$30,000,000 for a lodge
I think the lodge is 12M. There is a high speed lift and some other toys in there.

Not saying it changes the point, but it's a significant difference.

I said 2002 but I think it was the 2002/03 season and didn’t open until jan or feb. There was no lift served skiing at the bowl at the time ORDA started operating the tube hill.

It appears the beginner T-bar operated until the Village Chair replaced it. It just wasn't operated by ORDA.

You may be right. I was quoting SAM. If it is $12million it is still an absurd amount.
