Ski Bowl 3.0 at Gore

Gore just updated their website.

MORE SNOWMAKING AT THE SKI BOWL!
We’re expanding our snowmaking at the Ski Bowl this year. By adding a new valve house at the top of our Hudson Triple, we’ll be able to make snow on multiple trails simultaneously. We’ll also new snow guns for the first time on Moxham and update the snow guns on 46’er. Here’s to more Ski Bowl this season!

NEW SKI BOWL LODGE, CHAIRLIFT, & ZIPLINE COASTER
AT THE NORTH CREEK SKI BOWL
Hiking Center | Zip Coaster | Scenic Skyrides | Mountain Biking | Restaurant

In partnership with the Town of Johnsburg and the State of New York, Gore Mountain will break ground for the North Creek Ski Bowl Lodge, a new Hudson Chair, and Zip Coaster in 2024. This new lodge will be a full-service hub for year-round activities, and the innovative zip coaster will be a unique attraction that combines the features of a zipline with a rail system. The lodge will be an 18,300-square-foot facility with a restaurant and two levels of patios with slopeside views. In the warmer months, the lodge is positioned to become a popular destination for summer activities with hiking, scenic skyrides (on a new Hudson Chair), and mountain biking at the North Creek Ski Bowl. Completion of the lodge is slated for 2025, and the new lift is planned to be available for the 2024-25 ski season.

WHEREAS, the MOU is an official part of FSMD’s APA permit; and
WHEREAS, following approval of the Resolutions, and after soliciting bids for, and awarding certain contracts, FSMD disclosed that the infrastructure for processing the wastewater was not installed and that FSMD could not accept the wastewater from the proposed lodge; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Johnsburg chose to pursue the installation of a wastewater treatment facility to which the proposed lodge would connect; and
WHEREAS, installation of a wastewater treatment facility has since been approved by the property owners of the established sewer district and the Town has been awarded several grants to construct the facility, which is expected to be completed prior to completion of the Projects; and
WHEREAS, connecting to the Town’s wastewater treatment facility is an alternative that is satisfactory to Olympic Authority staff, who are now ready to move forward with the project under the terms of the amended agreement that is the subject of proposed Resolution # 505; ...

So does the poop treatment plant get done before the shiny new projects get done? Place yer bets.
No wonder they wanna extend the ORDA-Town agreement to 2062.
So with planned ground breaking for lodge in 2024 with opening in 2025 does this means the sewer system “expected to be completed prior to completion of the Projects”?
I’d bet Harv’s house is done before the North Creek sewer project is finished.
Maybe they’ll do it in phases so the lodge’s poo can exit safely.
How far behind are folks before they start?

That's a logical move. The snowmaking I mean.

Does anyone (@snoloco?) know... do they draw from the reservoir or directly from river when they blow the Bowl?

Cork? am I off the wall? or is the whole development BULLSHIT? The establishments in town can't find enough employees as it is, most working on shortened work weeks as is. ORDA's mission is economic development of the local communities yet their full service lodge is slated for year round operation hence competing with the local business community. Mountain biking? no mention of new downhill trails, are they expecting to use the existing ride up ride down trails Now maintained by the Upper Hudson Trails Alliance? [please join]. The new lift is being built solely to access town owned property that was gifted by Front Street Development, it runs through their property which they hope to develop for ski in ski out Zip Line? [a scar on the face of the Ski Bowl] how's the mountain coaster doing at Van Hoe a one and done attraction? JEEZ Great Escape is right down the road,
The only thing I agree with is expanded snow making.

Does adding snowmaking capacity at the Bowl mean they have to reduce capacity someplace else or end snowmaking earlier in the season because they will reach the limits set by the state? Is it even correct that they stop in Feb because of limits on water use in the park?

It shouldn't effect the rest of the mountain. The more you can blow AT ONE TIME the better = earlier terrain opening. Don't confuse max capacity with total or max spend. They aren't directly related.

They stop after Presidents because it generally makes no sense to spend the money. Until recently everyone went by that guideline, not just NY or state areas. That has changed a bit, but it is still mostly true.

The holidays are everything in eastern skiing. Christmas, MLK, Presidents are where all the money is made. The rest is for selling passes and providing steadier employment.

The ski bowl water comes directly from The Hudson, and will not have snow max as that is added in at the pump house from the Reservoir.
I saw Area 2 at The Ski Bowl on Thurday and chatted abou the new developement. He did mention that the project now does need to get the approval from the NYS Finance Committe, but I would think that is a rubber stamp.
ORDA is making a mockery of the need for more workers that the TOJ needs as well as ORDA themselves, but hey, who needs workers...or a place for the poop to flow... :poop:

There is still plenty of work for a snowmaking team to do with more automated snowguns. Especially when the number of snowguns increases.

Massanutten transitioned to automated snowguns starting 5-6 years ago. In some cases existing snowguns could be automated,. In others new snowguns were bought. The snowmaking crew at Mnut is working just as hard. New trails have been added in recent years. What happens is that more snowguns are on during a short window of opportunity, especially when daytime snowmaking is possible for 2-3 days.
