Ski Area To Change Its Name

Yup.
Fuck Vail.
Holy shit, that place is not much bigger then my backyard. How does that have a quad? They are split pretty evenly between beginner, advanced and intermediate. Green must be straight down the belly of the halfpipe, blue up the sides a little bit and black drops in off the deck. Vail sucks. Alpine Valley is awesome.

Hah . . . there is another Alpine Valley in the midwest. It's in Wisconsin, 388' vert, 90 acres.

Alpine Valley in Ohio has 230' vert and 72 acres. Peak Resorts bought it in 2012. It's been around since 1962. Clearly a feeder hill. I think it's become my Ohio ski buddy's home hill now that he's semi-retired. 45 min from Cleveland.

Alterra certainly wouldn't want midwesterners to think of either of these hills when considering a trip to Tahoe. ;)

There could be more. They are like Whispering Pines Campground.

Ha! Reminds me of one time skiing at Stratton. It was brutally cold. I shared a chair with a guy and ended up skiing a couple runs with him. We decided to stop at the lodge up top to warm up. I was a bit surprised to find out my new buddy was black. We were both totally covered with facemasks and such. I think he had mirrorized goggles. I thought it was funny. And I must admit, a little shocking. How many African Americans do you see on the hill?
Hardly any, I was thinking the same thing about surfing,

Ever ski on Christmas Day? I was a minority at Greek. Must be a thing, like Jews going out for Chinese on Christmas.
Or Asian Americans? It depends on where you are. Out in Tahoe, probably more diversity than in upstate NY. I know a lot of Asian Americans make the drive from California.

At Massanutten, I'd say on holiday weekends it's feels like almost half of the people sitting around the lodge are non-white. While many are relatively new immigrants from Asia, there are also quite a few Black multi-generational families who have owned timeshare at Massanutten for decades. Washington DC and Richmond are a couple hours drive away. Also a popular vacation stop for military folks who drive from Norfolk.

sitting around the lodge makes sense, vs out skiing, since that is one if those timeshare places with water park etc you usually get people from the city who aren’t necessarily there for the skiing

At Killington it's pretty much Asian day, but, also, the few days before and Xmas day are what my buddy always said was a great time to meet a nice, lonely Jewish girl.

NBS has become a big deal. They're famous for their parties but the serious purpose is to have African Americans accepted on their own terms in the whitest spaces in America. It's really no different than public school integration 60 years ago, except NBS is more successful at it. and they have the ski industry behind them. They're in the Warren Miller movie this year, which is the ultimate mainstream seal of approval. The money people have figured out that white people aren't having enough babies to support all the real estate in the future.

NBS Summits are always a good time.
