Ski Area To Change Its Name

Yeah, but for people who don't know north Tahoe skiing, would they think of Alpine Meadows as a bucket list destination resort like Jackson Hole or Snowbird? I get the sense that Squaw Valley was thought of in that category, not Alpine. So something would've been lost had the entire place just shifted to being called "Alpine Valley" or something like that.

My first truly off-piste exploration out west back in 2010 was at Alpine Meadows. Only a couple of days there but it was more than enough given that I wasn't that good a skier back then.
I honestly don’t give a damn what the place is called.

Apparently the logo somehow refers to Shane.

In a way, I suppose. I have no idea what led ‘McKonkey’s’ to become Eagles Nest. However, I was under the impression that the logo was a nod to the Washoe Tribe, for whom the Eagle is a sacred symbol used to communicate with the heavens. Basing the logo on something significant to local Indigenous Peoples would seem to fit well with the intent of the change.

Washoe/Alpine Meadows would have been good. I wonder if that was considered or how modern day Washoe would feel about it.

Palisades Tahoe is a crappy name.
I agree, it’s terrible. Alpine Valley would be the logical choice even though it’s bordering the banal. I skied there once after a 3ft storm. After skiing a few good runs the sun came out. They should name it the Cement Factory.
