Random NYSkiBlog Stuff That You Might Not Care About

@AndyB is my ace in the hole on all matters Xenforo (aka the NYSB forum software).

He's been pushing me for 2 years to move the forum to Google's "responsive" ad units. He's sure they will perform better, and I believe him.

I've resisted it to this point because Google's responsive ads are big. But now I'm testing them. If you aren't logged in, or you use an incognito window to visit the forum, you'll see the responsive ads. For now at least, logged in forum members still see the standard, smaller ad units, we've had forever.

Some may know I'm is starting semi-official retirement at midnight on new years eve this year. As part of a newly imagined austerity program advertising may get a bit more aggressive around here. 🤠

Seriously though, this thread would be the place to give any feedback. If it works and it helps pay for hosting, cool. If it ruins the experience, I need to know it.

Regarding the advertising issue above ^^ I've moved to a more modern ad serving system (still within the google system) that will allow a greater variety of ads. Theoretically that should help drive a bit more revenue. I am still staying away from the biggest most interuptive ads (see TGR) because IMO it's just too much.

But really ad revenue has dropped every year for the last 5 years because of the increasing use of ad blockers.

There is a way that you can make it so that you can't actually see and read our content if you are using an ad blocker. It seems pretty heavy handed.

I would sincerely appreciate forum members disabling any ad blockers while here. It's called 'whitelisting', you can do it for just one site if you want.

In other news, it's great to see the jump in action that comes with cold temps and snowfall!

Looking for opinions from those who read the front page.

The front page features a lot of TAGS. You can tag a piece to put it in categories. One of the tags is "Powder."

Often the best snow we get isn't really powder. I feel weird tagging those posts "Powder."

Three of the last four pieces were tagged with as Pow, but the snow, while very good, was not pow.

Should I add a new tag called "New Snow" or "Untracked Snow" or do I just label them Powder and be done with it?

Untracked?

You know my views on calling NY snow powder.

Me too. The struggle is real.

Untracked?
How do you describe this?
