ORDA's Biggest Wins

I just had a genius idea that would cause an uproar. Why not let ORDA reopen the feeder hills in the downstate parks- as in Silvermine and Fahnestock? That would support the mission, right?
Way too much money needed to reopen and run these 2.

But not Highmount. That wouldn't take much at all, in my (completely uneducated) opinion.
The state doesn’t own Highmount it is privately owned. The asking price per acre has been inflated way beyond fair market value. After Lift 7 is replaced the UMP shows another lift and trails added below the corner of Deer Run roughly following the Catskill Divide. That most likely will happen first, then maybe we’ll see some movement at Highmount.

The downhill area at Fahnestock is now a shooting range for the park police. Unfortunately there are no plans to ever reopen it. There is however a XC ski center with groomed trails and a lodge that opens when it snows. Snowmaking could and should be added to allow them to consistently open a couple loops. They have plenty of water in Canopus and Pelton ponds to make it happen.

Hearsay, I think from this blog. Will poke around at some point.

Certainly from conversations with Patrollers and instructors. Which is hearsay.

ORDA took over in 2012, here are the official Belleayre numbers since then. No idea if these numbers represent the truth.

Revenue was up by this metric, but there are some holes in the info.

The only time Belleayre got higher skier visits is when they gave tickets away, so I'd consider that a success for ORDA.
Good point. Honestly I'm not sure precisely which years those were.

It would be a no brainer to get these (the full access ones) for my teens and I, except for the fact that the fastest we can get to their closest mountain is 2:45 (with no stops, clear roads, no traffic) meaning we are probably springing for a hotel every weekend.
A cheap way around that is Lake George. All those rooms they have for the summer are empty and dirt cheap during the winter. Not ski in/out but Gore is 30/35 minutes and Whiteface about 1:20. I work remotely at night and have stayed there 4/5 times so far this year for the week and it doesn’t break the bank.
