ORDA Snowmaking Improvements

"Minimize the financial burden" almost implies that there will be a financial burden, ie a loss.

How do we decide which government expenditures/programs must produce revenue, and I guess growing revenue?

I do believe that much of what the government spends does produce revenue, that may be hard to quantify. Roads come to mind first, but I'm sure there are other examples.

X is right, if you remove constitutional restrictions, private ownership or operation, slopeside real estate, etc Ski3 mountains could be more like Mount Snow.

Full disclosure, personally I don't want that.

I do think a major limiting factor of visits to Gore is quality available lodging and off mountain amenities. If it had the Killy access road, or the towns of Ludlow, West Dover, Manchester etc you'd see a lot more visits. I've heard there are plans around expanding the sewer and other capacities of North Creek

That being said I personally like Gore the way it is, but to this discussion; the mountain itself is only half the equation when people plan a ski trip.

Spot on IMO. Read the first part, and was like, 'yeah that is true but then it wouldn't be Gore.' Then I read the second part and was like, that is exactly how I feel. You are welcome for the gift of my internal monologue.

Jokes aside I think we are going to Colorado next winter break because my wife was not having the handful of bad snow condition days over the Xmas break at Gore and then last minute planning the 'spa' experience 40 min away was not available to her. Happy wife, happy life.

Yes, there is LP but I think she wants the 'white gold' snow. It will be fun as my kids are little rippers relatively speaking. 9 YO was rocking Topridge on the ice day of doom over Xmas. But she gave me an earful after. I would not have brought her on it if I had done a run first but we were trying to keep up with a very nice family that just won't stop skiing no matter the conditions. I personally (sadly, happily?) love those crazy conditions that get thrown at you but family friendly helps for me.

I think Gore's biggest problem is that it isn't in Vermont. I work in NYC and literally no one knows Gore and very few have heard of Whiteface despite the fact it hosted the Olympics over 40 years ago. There are plenty of places to stay on Airbnb or Vrbo, but they are less than half the price of similar accommodations near Stratton or Killington or Sugarbush. It isn't about snowmaking, it isn't about management, it isn't about the infinitesimal part of the NYS budget that is dedicated to ORDA. It takes literally the same amount of time to get to Gore as it takes to get to Mount Snow (from NYC)--and the drive is much easier on better roads--but everyone wants to ski in Vermont. I blame Bing Crosby.

That seems very surprising. We always felt that way when I was a little kid (90s) and whiteface was our “home mtn” but seems that changed in recent times (2010s+)...prob in part to social media and the like...I wish it was still like what you mentioned, in some ways, reminds me of coming up to LP back in the day with no lift lines and ppl from home(nj) having minimal to no clue about the place.

I just don’t see it that way now
