ORDA Board Meetings

Found this:
  • Of the 473 downhill ski areas in the U.S., 122 operate under special use permit on National Forest System (NFS) lands.
  • Ski areas are permitted on 58 National Forests; in seven Forest Service Regions; and in 12 States.
  • Ski areas under permit occupy 182,095 acres.
  • Ski areas operating on NFS lands return about $26 million dollars annually to the U.S. Treasury. Among Forest Service activities, only the timber program contributes more to the Treasury.
  • About one-half of U.S. skier visits occur at ski areas that are located at least partially on NFS land.
Water rights are also an important part of running a ski area especially out west where water is less abundant.

They had one today.

Sad news
"On Friday, the entire ORDA family was very saddened to learn of the sudden passing of ORDA board member Tommy Keegan. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and loved ones during this time.

I didn't know he was part of the skiing community. Keegan was also a big part of the soccer community. And obviously the beer community. Truthfully, it seems like he was all about community writ large.

Yep, his son was an instructor at Belleayre for many years. And you’re right about him being all about the community at large. He was a great guy with a big heart and I will miss him.

New one's out. Starts at 6 minute mark or so.
Link does work if ya click it. Don’t know why the video unavailable bit show’s up.
Belle’s early pass sales are up. Lots of digging and construction pics.
Resolution on improving Gore’s drinking (well) water due to high sodium level was interesting.
Paul Smith’s olympic partnering seems reasonable for folks.
One of the resolutions sounded mainly marbled mouthy though.

Actually 2 resolutions were marbly mouthed but who counts other than me?

The potable water issue resolution discussion said Gore wants to tap into another well on the property to address the issue.
The 2018 UMP potable water section only mentioned the presence of 1 main well at the base and 1 much lower volume well at the saddle lodge.
Should the UMP have mentioned the other well in it’s inventory, if it was present when the UMP was updated in 2018?

Always good to have a back up source for good water.
