NY Uphill or Alpine Touring Routes

As insurance against the Covid situation, I have decided to invest in Alpine touring gear for the season. Because of the 14 day quarantine requirements in Vermont I am trying to plan out places to do alpine touring in New York. I am open to going to regular resorts/downhill ski mountains that allow uphill access. I am also looking for beginner friendly back country ski options in NY. The Mountaineer advised me to check out that avalanche lake ski touring route. Any other suggestions that are fairly close to the road and unlikely to have extreme weather variability or avalanche risks? Basically something that would be very very challenging on cross country skis, and tame for AT.

Defunct ski resorts are a good place to start. Try Hogback or Petersburg Pass.

Silvermine is right there in Harriman Park. It’s less then 400 feet, the terrain is gentle and it doesn’t get a ton of snow but it’s nice to practice skinning and transitions.

Maybe try Hickory in Warrensburg?

At this point it takes a huge storm to put Hickory's steep terrain in play.

Some good times at Hickory for sure. Wasn't that long ago really.

Sort of related. Has anybody tried to buy a backcountry setup (skins and bindings, maybe skis) this summer? Where'd you buy the stuff? I have the boots (FT Ascendants) just need the rest. Pretty much a Jong. Silvermine looks good to start, from my home. Do any of the Catskill or Mass. Areas allow uphill?

Windham is actually very uphill friendly. Mohawk is too and I believe Catamount allows it now too

My husband got his whole AT kit at Corbetts in Ontario Canada, online. I ordered my stuff at Cole Sport, and Evo so far.

Anyone ever heard of this website? I found like looking for info about Jiminy Peak and Berkshire East. New York is under Mid-Atlantic, not New England.
