NY Prop 1 2025

I would just say one of the few absolute rights we have in life as a citizen is the right to vote (and that you can lose in certain limited circumstances - don't remember the rules in NY). General note that it would be cool if we did not get on each other for how we voted. My bad for mentioning it in the other thread.
The bigger problem is that this type of transaction should not be subject to statewide popular vote. Rules in the NYS Constitution should be modernized to avoid this waste of time and money. I would guess 99% of NYS voters did not understand this proposal. Hell, plenty of people posting here were unsure of what this was about and people on NYSB generally care about this type of thing.

I was really torn on this one.

IMO: Of course Mt Van Ho should be subject to the same rules as Gore, WF, Belle. It just makes sense. And arguably nordic has less impact per acre than lift served.

And I want Van Ho to be awesome. I'm a nordic skier myself.

But it just felt to me that — rewriting rules so that a state agency could be in compliance with the state constitution — isn't right. There seem to be no consequences for years of blatant disregard for the law. And as Rip said, we'd all get our butts kicked if we did it.

In 100 years it won't matter. Hell next year it won't matter.

So I guess I'm ok that Prop 1 won, even though I voted against it.

On the upside Zelda didn't know about Prop 1, she read the two sentences on the ballot and voted for it. Can't blame her.

Warren County went for it big too. That surprised me a bit.

My girlfriend is a poll worker and has been one for 15 years. She told me they had more questions regarding this pro than anyone they've had since she has been working. It was truly a slight of hand action by those in charge.

I'm still waiting to learn where the 2500 acres are, how we obtained them, and what it will be used for. I understand it's to be added to the forever wild clause, but it seems we just learned that if you have the power that means nothing.

Clear as mud. 🤔
The dudes at the beginning of the APA drove around in beat up cars, hiking, drinking beer and drawing lines on a plastic map. Add lawyers & whatya expect? Rocket surgery?

So folks traded a couple hundred acres already owned by the government and still owned by the government near Lake Pla$id for 2500 acres, somewhere else in the park, the taxpayers of NY will pay for.

The Whitney Estate near Long Lake sold for ~$3500 per acre with some fine shacks on it. I’d guess the land of The Ho to be worth a whole lot more per acre.

The show must go on.

IMO, the fact that our state has forever wild lands and skiing written into our constitution is pretty rad. Hopefully we can all agree on that.

I've learned that expectations are predetermined disappointments. So, no. I don't expect that.
I'm not surprised. Of you cannot accept the support of people are assholes you will never have much support at all.
Would you not sell a car to a PTA member?
