Killington Conditions

Sno - There aren't enough beds in North Creek either, would you want the same plan to be implemented at Gore?
ORDA does not want Gore to be more than a day area in order not to steal overnight visits from Lake Placid. That is the plan for Gore now and forever.
I think Steve said it best, we hold Killington and Mike to a different standard and expectation.

Perhaps a Tremblant like experience is what K was always meant to be

Killington has been stagnant due to its lack of slopeside beds. Since it is a for profit ski area, it is in Killington's interest to find a way to increase its revenue/profit numbers and adding the village will be do this for Killington. Fixing the water supply will also be a positive for the whole Killington area.

The market for overnight visitors at ski areas has changed. More people (and especially families) are interested in staying in townhomes/condos with full kitchens and bedrooms vs hotel room/lodges. As we roll our collective eyes at the faux 'Disney' villages, there is something to be said for being able to walk to lifts/trails and restaurants from your lodging. It is particularly appealing to families.

I agree with you, but I have a feeling that staying in the village will be out of my price range. Hopefully it will bring down the rates on the access road, and there will still be walk-to-lift parking at Bear.

Killington has 6 parking lots and 5 base areas, 4 of which will be unchanged. It'll be a longer walk, but I'm sure you'll still be able to park near the village and walk to the lifts there. It was said in the podcast that they know they can't rely only on visitors staying in the village, and they still need to have walk to lift parking available.

If I was understanding Mike correctly on the Podcast, the long term vision is to covert Vail, Ramshead and Snowshed. So there would be 3 left right? K1, Skyship and Bear?

If you listened to the podcast it sounds like there will be "remote" parking lots and probably a bus to take you to the village, probably kind of like Copper Mountain. Also will there be a lodge in the village that people can change and leave their bags? There's nothing wore then trudging around in ski boots.

The village is being built where the parking lots are now. From the closer spaces in the "remote parking", I assume you'll still be able to walk.

They plan to replace the Ramshead and Snowshed lodges with new ones, so you'll still be able to boot up inside. And all of Killington's lodges have free bag storage.

I just hope the spring superstar experience doesn't change, that would be a shame...

I feel the same way.

It could potentially make it more profitable.
