Killington Conditions

I have a close friend who works in Operations at Killington. I asked him on Sunday (as we negotiated a bare spot near the top of Bittersweet by the Needles Eye lift) and he confirmed they will NOT blow more snow this season. Too much cost, for too little payoff.

Day 100 for Dean

Pefect spring day a K today. A little crowded at times, I overheard someone saying the Vermont schools were off today. Got on the chair around 10:30. They did not groom overnight. Consequently massive bumps on upper and lower Supperstar from the get go. A little much for this fat old man. I did ski the top once, never did ski the bottom. Luckily for me Nivis and High Road were both open so I was able to lap the middle and avoid the top and bottom. That, and laps on Skyelark, were enough to keep me satisfied. Middle Ovation was open with a walk back over to Supperstar required at the bottom. I didn't ski it, massive bumps there too. A bumpy Skyehawk was open as well.

Pretty sure that's a wrap on my East season. Going to CO to visit my son in a couple weeks. Probably hit Abasin for a day or two then.

Was planning on closing out my season on the umbrella bar this weekend but the forecast looks a little wet

Friday Night
Partly cloudy, with a low around 33. North wind 16 to 18 mph becoming west after midnight.

Saturday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. North wind 16 to 18 mph.

Saturday Night
Partly cloudy, with a low around 36. Breezy, with a north wind 16 to 20 mph becoming east after midnight.

Sunday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 53. East wind 15 to 18 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon.

So I arrived just before 10:30 today, Duck's Birthday and didn't see his vehicle. Wind swept heavy rain kept me in my vehicle doing a little work and biding my time. The sun peaked and I put on my gear...then...it started puking snow. I figured that was my signal. Just on the chair, I look back and yell Hey Birthday Boy, I will wait for you at the top...2 runs in rather foul weather and then...

North Ridge cam showing a nice coating / dusting of fresh snow currently. Think I'm headed up Friday. Looks like it might be a bit chilly, but should allow for a grooming reset before they reopen. I also don't have a lot of confidence that they'll make it as late as last season with as much snow (compared to last season when I got a perfect spring day 5/13 with tons of soft and fast snow starting off early in the 40s and ending up close to 90 at the base by the afternoon).

Of course he did. You can't avoid them this time of year...why would you? It's what spring skiing on the Superstar Glacier is all about. My first and third pictures are from the top. They will be open for a while. Skye Hawk had really nice moguls but the entrance and exit may not survive this rain.Yesterday was Super Fat Guy Corn aka Mashed Potatoes. First beer break we shed a layer and the goggles and donned sun glasses. I have to get back there this year but don't know if I can

I was trying to be funny.

I'm thinking about Sunday.
