Jay Peak Conditions

And in NY it's rock, and hopefully grass.

I agree with your assessment that Jay is pretty rocky. The only other time I was there the bottom was nowhere in sight.

Still yea, CanAm, yikes. They opened it.

before the new snow

I had a long drive home yesterday, so I stopped skiing around noon. I stopped into Steve Wright's office.

I hadn't seen him since 2011, almost exactly 11 years to the day. They were still building Hotel Jay.

He gave me an hour, I was pretty excited about that. He taught me a lot about himself and his business.

He seemed to really want to do in an interview and he kind of implied that doing it pretty soon would be a good thing for NYSB.

Um ok. Count me in.

I really want to ask him some smart questions. There are a bunch he already answered that I will use.

If you follow Jay, and have intelligent questions, I'd like to hear them, post em up.

I'd like to get him the first round within a week.

Sounds like you had a great few days at Jay, very jealous. Strangely enough, I don't have any burning questions for Steve, except for maybe, probe into his view of next five years at JPR. Ownership? Development? Capital improvements? Lift infrastructure improvements?

Does anyone know: How far is the hike to the Flyer, in vert and distance? It didn't seem like too much work for a nice payoff.

It's not worth it to hike to the Flyer. Herringbone with skis on up to Wedelmaster. That flats out to JFK, Alligator (for Everglade and Staircase), Ullr's, Beaver, and Andre's (you only miss Upper Ullr's and Poma Line). I use it to get to Tramside trees while avoiding riding the Freezer. Gotta ride it back, though, unless you Snail outta Tramside.

Jet has been off and on for a few weeks now due to maintenance. A month or so ago, it was banging and clanging, so they started loading every third chair for a while. Not sure if it is something that they can fix during the off season or if it is a major issue.

The Bonnie breakdown was cold/ice related, from what I understand, but that lift has had its share of issues, too (and was supposed to have been replaced already, that obviously fell through). JPR desperately needs to address Stateside lift infrastructure.

SW ain't gonna talk ownership change until the deal is done. No use even asking. Capital investments probably aren't going to happen until new owners take over. But, it would be nice to know what Ops has for long term recommendations for the new owners.

For what it is worth, Jay was nice last weekend. Just a bit of light untracked blower over a decent early season base. Not sure how it looks right now. But it was just better than early season low tide in the woods last weekend. I was there because it was one of the few places I could actually get into some off map woods. So many other places don't even have on map glades open. I imagine this weekend will be nice, wind depending. Still a lot of crap poking through the base layer, probably even more by now.

I really just meant in that direction, to get to the terrain served by it.

Yea, unload Bonnie, ski straight ahead, then herringbone to Wedelmaster. No need to take off your skis. As far as the vert of the hike, I have no idea. I only made that mistake once. :)
