Got a Kuat pivot hitch so I can access tailgate and upper clamshell. Journeyed with wife and kids onto the ocean parkway coastal greenway for 4 miles before we called it for a knee scrape. Fun.
The pivot allows access with the bikes on.

I found a situation where Rivian is really inefficient.
It performed quite well. As you might imagine night and day from driving a crv on sand. It mostly felt like I was driving on road in soft sand.
Most driving was in sand mode. A small bit in rally but I quickly disabused myself of using it. It is like the off road version of sport mode and was developed when rivian sponsored drivers on a marathon well know lm off-road driving and. Avocation course callled rebelle rally.
No fish caught.

Good point. I don’t really care about keeping this in pristine condition. I keep it up well but this was one of the use cases I bought it for. I guess I should rinse it off when I get home from the beach. This particular issue was never one with the crv.
I believe it was built with this stuff in mind but I ll Lon a call into support next time I have time to kill and ask what if anything I should do around salt.
A bunch of sand does get in the wheel wells but after a few miles of road driving it is out.

Yes, this was Demo Point at Robert Moses State Park, past field 2. Yes, I always carry the gear. Google 4x4 fishing permit. Actually - here is the link: https://newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/posProductDetails.do?id=348822&contractCode=NY
There are also permits for surfing and stargazing. Only surfing and fishing are 4x4. Unfortunately you can only buy until March 31 (but I guess it can't hurt to try) or after Labor Day. All passes follow the calendar year. Some are year round but those are only far out east near Montauk.
They have different rules for different beaches. During peak season (Memorial to Labor you have to be on Demo by 7 am or after 5 pm).
The check depends. You have to have a permit that matches the plate, and you have to have all the gear. If you go regularly and have the gear when they check they may recognize you and not check. But they can check anytime (they can even drive up to you on the beach and ask to see the gear).
When it is busier (say Saturday 9 am in the summer) they will often ask to see everything.
I am guessing they won't get a ton of Rivian s so they will start to recognize me (they used to waive me through in my CRV I think cuz they knew I carried the gear and they probably did not get too many CRVs. My CRV had a '4wd' label from Honda so they never said anything about it.
