A story from someone who skied Hunter as a kid long ago. Turns out the 70 Plus Ski Club has been holding an annual race day at Hunter for over 45 years. The next one is on March 6, 2024.

"Every time I drive Route 23A to Hunter Mountain, I am reminded of a lifetime connection to the area. I learned to ski here, and so did my kids, but I started visiting Tannersville long before the ski mountain opened in January, 1960.

My family spent two weeks each August at the Rose Garden Hotel when I was little. . . ."

After the to Slutzsky brothers died (Orville died in 2013 and Izzy died in 2006), the next generation of Slutzskys really dialed back on snowmaking. They then sold it to Peak in 2015 who continued to reduce the snowmaking commitment. Vail bought Hunter from Peak in 2019. Vail has shown they will run the snowmaking as little as possible and less than Peak.

It is a sad time for the long time Hunter skiers.
