Helmets bro!

As for bike riding . . . a helmet only for longer rides. I'm not a mountain biker but will ride easy trails. No helmet around the neighborhood. Especially in warm weather.

Do people in your neighborhood have cell phones? Trees don't move, cars do...and lots of times they are moving with the driver on their phones or otherwise distracted.

I always wear helmets when skiing and biking. Even whrn riding mellow rail trails, as someone mentioned earlier here about the possibility of anyone catching an edge at anytime while skiing, a branch can easily get caught up in a wheel, esp when riding an easy trail where one's mind may wonder or become distracted. I see helmets like insurance. A small premium to pay for coverage (perhaps not "full coverage"in all situations) that could potentially protect from a potential large and/or catastrophic loss.
