Gore / North Creek Lodging and Amenities

Feel free to correct my ignorance, but in both cases the towns, North Creek for Gore, Fleischmanns, Arkville, Margaretville for Belleayre are west of the resorts. Meanwhile most patrons come from the east. After a hard day I don't want to travel in the wrong direction for anything. Maybe this is a reason.

For full disclosure I approach Belleayre from the west and often get gas, beer, food, groceries on the way home. I approach Gore from route 8 so I might stop somewhere on that side (Gloversville etc).

I think the Arkville/Margaretville side of Belle is much healthier than down the hill towards the thruway

don't want to travel in the wrong direction

This definitely impacts me. Crazy sometimes.

Spent 3 hours at Peekamoose with Ripitz and clan on my birthday. Fun as hell and "on the way!" 🤠

If you don't count that insane detour I had to take after dinner.

It's often about the journey, not the destination. Except when I want to go skiing...
And happy birthday

It was weeks ago, but thank you. We had a great time and the desert had fireworks shooting out of it!

not sure if ORDA's to blame but I do find the availability of decent pizza and breakass sammy's to be a good barometer of a healthy recreational environment...
Pizza and B sammys now available at Kelly's in Wevertown other food also and its good.
Open breakfast and lunch every day and has been open both Friday and Saturday into the evening.

You’re not wrong. There’s just more to it
There is really not more to it. NYS invested $100million plus into Gore since 1999. Gore has almost tripled in size. NYS did this in anticipation of having more skier visits which is generally accepted way to improve the local economy around ski areas. ORDA has not increased the visits. ORDA has never had to answer for their failure at Gore. Counting visitors is an accepted metric for measuring success in the ski business. It is that simple.

To be clear, I am not suggesting Gore needs to replicate the roughly 600k visits that the 3 SVT resorts see. Gore could easily handle another 50K visits (215k + 50k=265k visits) over the course of the season and not ruin the Gore experience. That would allow more money to improve the snowmaking system, hire more employees, and offer more money to the employees. Maybe the Ski Bowl would be open everyday. This increase would help North Creek and the surrounding area as there would be more overnight visitors.

Gore is 3-4 hours from most of the NYC metro area and Gore needs to be promoted in the NYC metro market. Skiers at the Epic and Ikon resorts are complaining about overcrowding and are desperate to find uncrowded skiing experiences. Gore fits the bill. Maybe somebody can explain to me why Gore is not promoted in the NYC metro market while Whiteface is promoted in the NYC market. Why is ORDA going to spend $30 million on the Ski Bowl if there are no plans to increase visits? ORDA should peal off $100k from the $30 million Ski Bowl money and hire a marketing person who can promote Gore in the NYC market.

Sadly, nothing will change.

Counting revenue might be.
From an ORDA board meeting. 19-20 season was stopped short.

And or peal off $1M annually to distribute as grant funding to local business that can provide specific amenities in the host communities.
