Gore / North Creek Lodging and Amenities

not sure if ORDA's to blame but I do find the availability of decent pizza and breakass sammy's to be a good barometer of a healthy recreational environment...
When I was driving around New England in the winter, I would notice what type of eating places or restaurants were within a few miles of the entrance of a ski area/resort. Very different between Stratton and MRG for instance. Or Jiminy Peak versus Berkshire East.

I’ve heard locals complain, on these pages and elsewhere, that the ski commuters don’t spend any money in North Creek and the weekenders spend it all in Lake George, which makes plenty of money the rest of the year. I really would love to spend my money in North Creek, but what’s available except for Stewart’s hot dogs?
I have avoided weekends like the plague since long before covid, usually day trip to Gore a couple of weekdays each week. We start early, take a break late morning and knock off around 2, ready for lunch. Our choices are pretty much eat on the mountain (Gore chili?🤢) or Stewart’s. The closest place we’ve found to get a couple of beers and lunch is Old Log Inn north of Lake George.
I’m skiing tomorrow and Mondays are particularly bad. A survey of what’s available near North Creek-
Becks now only open Friday-Sunday.
Izzy’s, Marsha’s, Sarah’s open until 3 so possible to get lunch if we hurry.
Barking Spider, North Creek Lodge, Bar Vino, Basil & Wicks don’t serve food until 4-5 pm. Sorry, I’m almost home by then.
Sorry if I’ve missed your place, some of this information comes from Google.
If you build it they will come and spend money.
This^

Although it gets harder and harder we like to be somewhat spontaneous , after day of skiing sometime feel like a beer and/or dinner sometimes more, sometimes less. Really enjoy the mountain but, after a few trips we usually stay in LG to keep options open.

Would you invest your money in a restaurant in NC?
That’s the question

Not for nothing but these are very complicated economic problems. There are break even points that go up or down based on all kinds of factors. Taxes, minimum wage, OSHA, availability of labor, inflation etc… Small business owners have a lot of things to consider.

Vail Resorts Inc calls them ancillary attachments.
They seem to make a go of it somehow.
But they got an old Pepsi CEO in charge nowadays.
Does the Tannery Pub do take out? Shouldn’t be hard to put a pizza in a box.

And in NC they are considering all those things and making the decisions they think are best for their survival.

ORDA has a legislative mandate to economically help the regions around the ski areas by "maximizing revenue opportunities." Gore is not being utilized in a way to boost the local economy. Here is #1 from the ORDA MIssion Statement:

"Legislative Mandate & Mission

ORDA’s legislative mandate is to:

  1. Institute a comprehensive, coordinated program of activities utilizing the Olympic facilities, Gore Mountain, and Belleayre Mountain, in and around Lake Placid, North Creek, and Highmount, New York, in order to ensure optimum year-round use and enjoyment of these facilities to the economic and social benefit of the regions and to minimize the financial burden on state and local government by maximizing revenue opportunities."
