Cuomo says ski areas in NY to open at 50% Capacity

Historical weather data....

I was curious, and found this. New England was closer to the Upper Midwest than I thought. But still warmer.

State averages are kind of BS because what we really care about is the mountains. New York's average is obviously warmed up by Long Island and downstate. For cold, I'd put Saranac Lake up against any hamlet in VT.

I just spent an hr on sun city’s web site. Year round golf an 2 hrs from flagstaff. Bet that place doesn’t suck.
I’m no golfer but I imagine, that if I was, low 60 degree temps and sunshine in the middle of January would be pretty darn opposite of suck :D

The weather in this state can be amazing, especially if you bounce between the 8 different climate zones within two hours of driving. Hopefully flagstaff doesn’t burn to the ground anytime soon. It’s downright scary out west right now.

Speaking of golf, the openings for New York State skiing may be similar to how the golf courses opened and closed numerous times this spring. It’ll be a learnin curve till they get the bug(s) worked out. Hopefully the weather is good for skiing. It was a good year for golf with records broken for the number of rounds played.

Essentially "ski resorts" will be "ski areas" this season, no matter what the weather is like. From what I read, a lot colder in the northern midwest than most of New England. What do you think @MiSkier ?
MarzNC what I have been reading and hearing here is Metro Detroit and Northern Michigan is wetter than normal and normal temps, which would mean mainly snow from the middle of the state and north and snow, ice and sometimes just rain in the southern part of the state. I also see Boyne Mtn, Boyne Highlands and Nubs Nob having very good seasons, summer tourism was up this summer due to the fact that people were not getting on planes and the very northwest part of the lower peninsula is and has been the most open and least restricted part of the state since late May.

I grew up in Michigan and now live in Albany. I don’t think the climate is much different here or there. It seems about the same to me.

Fleece sweat pants, folks. They’re cheap as hell. Comfortable. No long johns required. Throw on uninsulated rain pants (At home or the hill- up to you) and you’re good to go.
