Fun night with some buttery bumps, everything else was fairly smooth, fast, soft and empty

I had to work late into the night multiple times this week so I did not feel guilty leaving work a little early (10:30 am) yesterday (Friday) to get a few hours of skiing in. I love skiing Blue toward the end of the season. Parking is easy, place is empty and the snow is soft. To my knowledge, Blue did not get much (if any) of the snow that buried the Catskills earlier in the week. Regardless, I thought conditions were fine for this late in the season with many runs having complete coverage (see photo 1). That said, there were spots on some of the runs where coverage was slightly less complete (see photo 2).

It seems that Sidewinder was not opened at all this season. I have been skiing Blue for the last ten years or so and I can’t recall Blue not having one of their main (non-glade) runs open for the entire season. It’s a pretty wide run. Maybe the snowmaking window to get it open never materialized? That said, I give Blue credit for the amount of snow they made (and runs they were able to open) considering the weather they had this season.

Only negative of the day was that the number of “no outside food/drink/bags” signs seemed to be more than I remember, and cubbies were nowhere in sight (I was at the top lodge). I booted up at the car and was only skiing for a few hours so it did not affect me. However, it is yet another data point of an unfortunate trend at ski hills.

Still, it was great to get some turns in while I still can this season and the warm weather (as well as some rain earlier in the day) made for some fun skiing. I do enjoy Barney’s Bumps when they are not blocks of ice.

missed this post, yea first time I can recall them not getting 100% open but they did a great job this season with what they had to work with!

That’s a a wrap for Blue ‘22-23

Gorgo was this somewhat inevitable? You going to do something different in the future or see how it goes?

It was only a matter of time for Ikon to partner with some PA ski areas as Epic has 8 ski areas in PA. Jack Frost and Big Boulder are the closest Epic areas to Blue and Camelback. Adding Blue and CB to Ikon might make me consider a midweek day in PA. It will be interesting to see what happens with Elk and Blue Knob.
