Blue Mountain PA Conditions

I don't know why people get excited about Elk. Maybe it's because it's different from where they are used to skiing. We had passes at Elk years ago, and much prefer Greek Peak. There just isn't that much to Elk--plus the parking is a bit of a hassle.

In terms of Blue Knob, we last skied there about eight years ago. It's an inverted ski area, but has some interesting terrain. They even have a small bowl.

Unfortunately the new owners don't seem to have the common sense, knowledge, or enough financial resources to fix the long term neglect of key lifts and snowmaking infrastructure. The folks who live in DC and Pittsburgh keep hoping things will get better, but so far not much progress at all. The pandemic timing didn't help.

The contrast between what the BK owners have done in the last two years and what the Perfect family did in more or less one year for Timberline in WV is pretty clear. Timberline went from falling apart completely, closed for two seasons, to a star attraction that is competing well with Snowshoe.

I've skied BK, Elk, Montage, and Plattekill in recent years. Plan to go back to Montage and Plattekill sooner or later.

That’s a shame. I had no idea.

Have you skied the Poconos ?
Elk is consistently better.

Blue has come along way with regards to bump skiing so if conditions are good all over there’s no need to drive another hour.

Yeah the tree nazis suck ….So much more potential!

Plattekill for the win ! Another hour North but worth it!

Yes, for many years--Camelback, Shawnee, JF/BB, Blue/Little Gap, Montage, Elk--with season passes at all of them at one point or another. We then happened upon Greek Peak, and realized that it was a notch up from the others in terms of terrain. Not so much in terms of lifts or snowmaking, but definitely a nicer variety of terrain. Plus, there is rarely a lift line, which is the selling point for us.

We've never skied Plattekille.

Wow, usually it's anything goes, everything in play. Must've been during the Ski Patrol TrueTV reality show days when they were out of hand, going crazy overboard on everything.

It was years ago when I first started skiing. Maybe 20 years. Not trying to be negative. When I saw those bumps, I thought maybe I should rethink. It's an 1:40 from my house... I thought maybe a weeknight or a weekend night when I'm not skiing up north.

Don’t you think it’s about time. If you don’t do it this year….

Yes, we keep saying, "one of these days," but then end up making the extra drive to NH or VT. We pretty much spend our time at Greek Peak, with just occasional trips out west or New England.
