Sports illustrated wrote a piece “Avalanche!" about it just afterwards..
Starts on pg 82. The ads are priceless.

Hate to be Debbie downer, but I just read that wearing a beacon inbounds will just make it easier to find your body. Statistics are bad. Maybe if everybody was required to carry a shovel and beacon, that would work, but, nah gonna happen. There is some terrifying video out there of the recent avalanche on KT-22. People digging through debris with their bare hands. Call me Safety Sally but I almost always have a shovel and wear a transceiver out West. I’ve been up that crazy lift and I damn straight would have my full kit with me. My heart goes out to the victims, their families and that little Tahoe community. A sad reminder that we can never fully control the mountains.
In the 1982 article folks used transceivers, probes & dogs to find the Avi victims.Hate to be Debbie downer, but I just read that wearing a beacon inbounds will just make it easier to find your body.
