Any Day, Any Race

Interesting article about race tactics of under 20 racers from Flathead land at Mt Vanhovenberg last week.

Great share, @tirolski . Athletes coming from high altitude would have an advantage here IMO. The slushfest corner is likely what is locally known as "the fish hook," 'cuz that's what it's shaped like. Coming off a fast descent, damn near a 180 degree left into the final climb. I've negotiated that in slush and it ain't fun.

Nuthin' but respect for athletes that can bring it in 4 races in the space of a week.

"Athletes in the IMD spend more of their season at competitions in the region, which typically are held at high elevations with more difficult courses." Van Ho is at the upper end of what FIS allows for max climb, height difference and stuff like that.

That uphill corner must’ve been the same one giving folks problems for the collegiate race held recently too. Saw coaches running out to give racers a new pole in the video for those races.
When I ran cross country and it was muddy folks wiped out more on the downhill.

Yeah... I was at van Ho the day they ran classic sprints. Someone broke a pole in that corner.

That was a bad crash, 100 is going to have to wait.
Course was ice, flat light and rutted some after being in 1st place after run1 in GS.
Hope she’s OK &/or can heal.
The crash was tough to watch.

Tremblant had previously cancelled their WC races set for next week.
