Gore Mountain Conditions

The whole interconnect is a misconceived joke. The point of Backwoods was to have an easier way to the Burnt Ridge quad and Ski Bowl. But if your comfort level is Backwoods, you're not gonna have the skating/gliding skills to cross Cedars easily, and you're gonna be terrified on the steeper pitches of Paradox or Eagles Nest or whatever they call the trail back to the BRQ. You're not gonna like coming back over that little bump at the top of Hedges either.
None of which I would care about except that they are neglecting the main mountain to justify the whole thing.

Let's not get into conspiracy theories about the ski bowl ruining the rest of the mountain and being scapegoated for any operational shortcomings on the main mountain. I'm guessing even the most outspoken critics will be there this weekend to avoid crowds at the main base.

The tone of this thread is now similar to discussions of The Wilmington Trail at Whiteface. Some people have a misguided view that is the sole cause of all snowmaking or operational shortcomings on the rest of the mountain. This could not be further from the truth. This year it opened earlier than ever, and they still got Skyward open 2 weeks earlier than last year. Also, Lookout has always been open 7 days a week. Even in the years when it opened super late, once it was open, it was open daily.

So an average of 5-6 weekends of three days a week sounds like a new high speed quad that will run less than 25 days a year. 🤔😵‍💫😱🤬
There is already a model for this usage: the Burnt Ridge HSQ for the last 17 years.
Open about mid-Jan, open on the remaining 9-10 weekends and Fridays until about mid March with a few holiday openings in the Presidents week. If there is a big natural snow year there might be some other non-holiday midweek days.
A joke on Gore skiers and sliders.

Let's not get into conspiracy theories ...
It's not a conspiracy theory when you can see what they are doing with your own eyes. They have expanded the area before they have adequate snowmaking and patrol to support it. They don't even have adequate snowmaking for the main mountain, even before they need to build the Hole Shot course.

NY spends a huge amount on Gore every year. Granted 1/11,000,000 of that money is yours.

But the reality is we can't control it.

This has always been an issue. For decades that I have been following it. The money flows in ways that aren't really operations based. I don't think it will change.

Milo life is good. Try to enjoy it.
