Yes You Need Snow Tires

When I had the rwd Safari I would buy snows IF I found myself replacing my tires in the winter. Otherwise I never thought about it. I learned to drive upstate in the eighties though so I guess technique overcame technology.

All seasons are for full time flatlanders, minimal snow. All weather are tweeners. A compromise biased towards the all seasons. What are you driving?

If you plan on spending most of your winter in the Adirondacks you need real snow tires. I've been doing the snows on steel rims for 30 plus years on vehicles. I tend to keep vehicles for 10 plus years so it works for me. All Weather/All Seasons tires=Worst of All Worlds.

Yup.
Drove 690 thru the Cuse to get to and from work for over 35 years.
Biggest problem was inexperienced folks screwing around.
Anti-lock brakes, AWD and good tires help but can’t fix stupid.

Wife has Goodyear Assurance all weathers on her Mazda CX-5. Commutes to GF daily (40 miles round trip). No problems. Even blasts through the plow berms when it storms. She grew up in Utica, so that helps!

Yup. When SUVs were first a thing in the mid 1990s, I used to see a lot of them in ditches when it snowed. People seem to have acquired more sense in the last few years.

I've had two and held on to the second one as my "weekend go-cart". Small light weight manual RWD cars just keep getting harder and harder to find.
RT on!
This summer I went to Watkins Glenn for the IMSA race ---- those things were all over the place there. I've always had an appreciation for that car.

I spent a few years in Colorado late 70s when Audi first put out their AWD sedans. It was noticeable how many were buried off I-70 either in the median or off the right side. Drivers thought they were invinceable. (sp).
