To our friends in the media,

My name is Dan Toth and I am the new Marketing & Communications Manager here at Windham Mountain, a position previously held by my predecessor Becky Pine. I am reaching out to you today regarding an update here on the mountain, specifically the renaming of one of our chair lifts in honor of a full-time ski patroller who recently passed from complications with cancer, Ronald Baker.

Ron Baker not only played a crucial role in developing Windham Mountain Ski Patrol into the program it is today, but was the living embodiment of the “Above and Beyond” brand here at Windham. A familiar face and unique personality made Ron well known throughout the Windham Community as well, and he has left a lasting impression on all those he encountered throughout his 20+ years spent here.

Windham Mountain will rename the “Wheelchair Double” chairlift to “Baker Lift” in honor to celebrate the life of Ron Baker before the start of the 2020/2021 Winter Season, with a specific date to be determined soon. The renaming of a chairlift is something that is not common within the industry, making this announcement not only unique, but extremely special as well.

If you have any questions, comments, or looking for more information, please feel free to reach out to me and I will gladly assist!

Thank you and have a good day,

Dan Toth

Thanks for that. It's cool that you chose the best lift on the mountain to honor Ron. Along with everything else he did at Windham and with emergency services in Colonie, I was impressed to see him bring sleds down under the double without anyone on belay. He had mad patrol skills. I'm gonna miss him.
Let us know when you have a date.

It was named because it goes up the Wheelchair trail. All the trail names at Windham start with W. IIRC patrol refers to it as B lift, or Baker lift on the radio.
Until about 20 years ago it had an uphill loading zone. The race coaches could sometimes glide up the hill but usually I had to sidestep. It was only a few steps but that was enough to prevent a line from ever forming. The new entrance ruined that, but at least it still goes to the steepest spot, and it's fast for a fixed grip, so it's still the best lift on the mountain.

I knew about the "W" motif. I didn't know there was a trail called "Wheelchair."

Windham posted a color coded "capacity calendar" to show when day tickets will be sold at ticket windows. No surprises in terms of which days are expected to be busy and therefore advanced online tickets will be required. Wyndham-only passholders don't need reservations. Ikon reservations are required. Planning ahead for weekends necessary one way or another.

Straight lining double black yesterday on the worst snow ever.
Not sure how many lessons were there yesterday or group of kids having fun, but straightlining really poor looking double blacks yesterday was not really safe. It was almost a race ...Not against having fun or so but it looked borderline unsafe especially when you were the one wanted to make turns on those hills and being the one actually ahead of these guys.. .

This is pretty much holiday skiing at most "resorts" in the east, no?
