Whiteface Conditions

I’m low key excited to be skiing at WF this weekend, slush as it may be! Of course the last truly spring slush day I had at WF (a few years ago) I got so into blasting slush piles, on one turn the inside edge of my downhill ski got pushed up against the shin on my uphill leg, proceeding to slice through my ski pants. At the bottom my lower leg felt wet, which when skiing slush wouldn’t be a big surprise. Of course when the wet is red…..well, after a trip to the hospital and a dozen stitches I was back at it the next day. Good times, but let’s hope THAT doesn’t happen again!

Dang.
Wet snuff is much trickier than normal snow.

This is probably one of the best Insta-photos WF has ever put up. It truly has gotten me more stoked for the weekend!

Agreed, a great photo. It would be funny if the guy had a beacon and shovel. Have fun out there!

While I can say I’ve skied Skyward in objectively “better” conditions…..I can’t honestly say I’ve ever skied it in more fun conditions. Gorgeous day. Great up top, what you would expect down below.

One of the hottest days I've ever skied. And it was muggy too. Snow conditions were great where there was sufficient coverage. Run of the day Skyward by far with Paron's to Excelsior in second. Mountain Run, Draper's, and Essex to Northway from the lower entrance were also good. Not many people there either. Sadly, it was my last Whiteface day this season. The 80 degree meltdown has resulted in an early close, with the last day being tomorrow instead of 2 weeks from now.

Anyways, here are the pictures:

So, I guess I’ll get to close down a second mountain this season, after being at the Platty closing day last week!

Tomorrow should be interesting, as there were crucial spots that were getting thin today, but I’m sure tomorrow (Sky, Sky, and more Sky) will be good again.

I can honestly say I’ve seen them do more with less coverage to keep the hill open in the past, but it WAS earlier than mid-April. Not that I’d be back next weekend if they did open, off to the Cape to break out the surfboard. Not that my ski season is over….
