My post reads as pretty tone deaf to our realities. Like many, I see myself as part of the problem and part of the fix. Mainly, I'm focused on my leg, and will take any skiing I can get. My state just announced travel restrictions effective today and I will work w/in those to ski/bike/hike/skate locally until travel is an option again.
I'll ski Gore this year, but I'll drive up alone and stay outside. Probably it's the safest thing I'll do all winter. still hoping to see my grandchildren in Denver, but...
I'll gladly show you pictures in a private email, if you'd like. Won't put anything online, I've known of too many folks getting into trouble for doing so.
Heck, hopefully I get something this year picture worthy. I'm certainly do, been a while since I've gotten anything to hang on the wall but that's not why I hunt anyway. Antlers are nice and all but they're tough eat.
1.Staying alive
2. Local xc within 30 minutes
3 . Seeing friends and family after the vaccine
That's it.
Any plans are futile given the surge expected after Thanksgiving and Christmas
After 9.5 months of reading daily briefs from the medical center , i am even more certain the worst is yet to come . So due diligence is the order of the day .
Hope to catch some powder days from the Lake Michigan snow machine once it gets going, Also if the restrictions (wishful thinking) for NY get lifted going back and see family and try to ski Plattekill again this season.
I'm a sissy, I just asked for / turned in for credit, my Whiteface pass. I ski on the weekends, I can't see skiing being fun for me and jumping through all the hoops ...i hope to buy a day ticket here or there as things get better. I mostly ski with my young kids, I can't see getting ready in the car (or home), trying to navigate the bathrooms, getting warmed up or eating in the car with kids....and I am literally 2 miles from Whiteface. I'm looking forward to Season 21/22
That close you can boot the kids up at home and go home for lunch. I do understand how daunting it can be to deal with really young kids at a ski resort though. My younger son started skiing at a later age then my first because his older brother was still taking up both hands
I might be that close - but I still get there early - "I need a good parking spot !" - to leave a good spot and come back ....oh my ! isn't there a Seinfeld episode on that ? I have issues.
